1. Offensively - score more than 35. Try to have a running game. Lee is should be 3rd on our depth chart - start Booth and Gayten. Get Kelly A involved and get the ball in Coleman's hands as much as possible.
2. Defensively - sell out for the run. If we struggle against the pass - so be it. Hold them to less than 20 points.

Watching us get run all over the first two weeks has been about as disheartening as not being able to cover anyone in the passing game last year. Really though Blanton would have more of an impact there. Having Isaac Smith be our leading tackler is not a good thing.

Totally agree on Lee, he has not been productive for us. Booth and Gayten have at least shown sparks. Need to be getting the ball in their hands.

I see a 38-17 type game. Game should never be close or in question. We will put an empahsis on line play and we'll look like a million bucks against an inferior opponent.

Things will look different the following week.

We are overblowing a toledo team. That lost its starting QB and entire OL from last season... a QB that went 8 for 23 against UMASS

Toledo has played Ohio State, Illinois, and Colorado State the last 3 years and lost to all 3. Last year was their best team in sometime and they still couldnt get over the hump. They last SEC team they played was kentucky and lost by 14.

This isnt the same Toledo of 10 years ago and the MAC has been weakened by the transfer portal.

Toldeo isnt good. This year they've played a non major and umass. They arent even remotely ready to see the type of athletes we have. This is/will be a paycheck game

Unless Umass all of a sudden got good Toledo is not as good as they have been in the past. They did have that good QB go into the portal. That hurt them. I agree with DS Booth needs to start.

The tackling by our team is horrible. Too many times the past two games they missed tackles for no gain or loss. I hope the coaching staff had them doing Oklahoma drills on the plane flight home.

According to an interview in todays Columbus Dispatch with a beat reporter from Toledo, their QB is a two year starter that's thrown 6 TDs and 0 interceptions to 4 different receivers. Not saying we'll win or lose but they didn't lose their QB at at least according to this guy

Their QB was Finn. Played and I think was the conference player of year last season and all conference two seasons in a row. He transferred to Baylor.

Dequan Finnwas the quarterback for the University of Toledo Rockets in 2023:

  • Achievements: Finn was the 2023 MAC MVP, and was named to the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2023. He was also the all-time leading rusher for a Toledo quarterback with 1,837 yards.

  • Transfer: Finn transferred to Baylor after the 2023 season.

The current QB went:
he went 15 for 24, 202 yards and 3 TD against Norfolk State
he went 8 for 23, 175 yards and 3 TD against UMASS

n his time at Toledo, Finn was among the best in the MAC ever since taking his first full-time snaps in 2020. In his first full year of action, Finn threw for 2,067 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 57.6 percent of his passes. He added 501 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground as well.

In 2022, Finn backed up his breakout performance with another solid performance, albeit marred by injury. In total, he threw for 2,269 yards and 23 touchdowns on 59.8 percent passing. On the ground, he added 632 yards and nine scores. He led his team to an 8-4 mark, including a MAC Football Championship and a Boca Raton Bowl win over Liberty.

This past campaign was Finn’s best. In 13 games, he accounted for 2,657 yards and 22 touchdowns off of 63.4 percent passing. On the ground, Finn amassed 563 yards and seven touchdowns.

In total, Finn’s 7,079 passing yards end up as fifth most in Toledo history and his 1,837 yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground are the most in program history by a full-time quarterback.

Finn leaves the Rockets as a second-team All-MAC selection in 2022 and a first-team All-MAC and MAC Most Valuable Player selection this past season.

You dont lose a QB of that caliber and the entire offensive line... and walk into an SEC stadium on a saturday and win.

This should be a straight up mauling.

Toledo returns all their receivers and defense. A lot depends on how good Gleason plays. MAC knocked off ND and almost #8 penn state. MAC always plays P4 teams tough. Toledo has not had a losing season in 15 years and has made 8:straight bowl games. They are well coached.

Where did you get that info.

They lost their best DL, 2 of their starting line backers, and their best CB that was the second corner selected in the draft.... and they lose 4 of their 5 top defensive backs

UMASS threw for nearly 300 yards against them...We should have an absolute field day on their defense.

they basically lost one of the best QB in their history. The no doubt best defensive player in history. The entire O-Line. And only return 5 starters on D. They arent any good AT ALL.

Read cfn preview. Toledo is picked to finish in top 2 of Mac and projected to win 8.5 games.

if you read that... and they didnt include that they lost 4 of their 5 starters in the secondary.. one of them being the best corner in school history... then its not a very good preview....

EDIT: I just read it. It actually says that it lost those guys so again, not sure where you saw they return their entire defense. Guess you were skimming it.

It would be tempting to me to try to move Isaac to OLB during a bye week...see if he could do it during practice and see what his backup does at SS. Yeah, that's a video game kind of move, but man we need some help at LB.

Sounds a lot like ASU. Lol. They are about a 4 or 5 win team themselves. Maybe 6 if their schedule really sucks.

You sure that wasn't a 2023 preview? Nvm, I found it. Still, even that preview lists us as the only "likely loss" on the schedule.

Not going to argue with you, ”cake walk” and “field day” are not terms I would use for this game.

not arguing but you saying the return their entire defense.... When then entire secondary left, including the best player in school history. their best edge rusher, and their starting LBs as well.... that isnt a team that returns its entire defense.

Throw in the best QB in the mac.. and their entire OLine...

its a shell of the team it was for the last two seasons. This should be a complete route on Saturday... if we are planning on being competitive inside the SEC

Ok it’s going to be a complete route*

my own opinion is this feels like a 7-10 point win, but if we play poorly or sloppy it will be closer than that.

Lets hope. One thing for sure is last years defense isnt out there. UMass threw for 259 against it. We should have a field day. I assume our QB and WRs are a little better than UMASS

and we should for sure take advantage of an offense that has 0 experience on the OLine and whose QB went 8 for 23 last week

Shapen and Coleman will likely get this win themselves. But it'll be closer than we want it to be.
