My (our) 29 year old son is in the kitchen right now stamping out "cutout" cookies with my wife. This goes on for hours as he rolls the dough, re-rolls it to get the last cookies cut out, and then ices them after they are baked and cool.......

A treat for Mom.....

And my wife was complaining years ago about having the smallest "stocking", so I bought her one about as big as she is and every year she lines up her small one with the rest, and then I get out the BIG one and the boys and I try to fill it up........ which is now ongoing.

Later today, dinner as a family, Christmas eve service, then opening presents as a family. One of these years we hope to add some little people to the evening's activities....

As Byzantine Catholics we have a Holy Supper on Christmas Eve. We eat certain ethnic foods...pierogis, wild mushroom/sauerkraut soup, bobalki (sweet bread balls), lentil soup, honey bread. The meal marks the end of Advent which is the period of preparation for the birth of Christ.

Christmas Eve service followed by Pozole verde, then bath and bed time for the 2 and 4 year olds then Santa comes. Been this way for the past 4 years. Before the kids, it was pozole verde then Christmas Eve service. Kids ruin everything….

Christmas Day is opening presents ungodly early followed by tamales for brunch and Christmas dinner

Fair, Did you know that Andy Warhol was a Byzantine Catholic? He sometimes attended St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Manhattan, I understand.

Sounds good.

Celebrate my birthday.

Used to have the 7 fishes buffet dinner spread and get together with the relatives on the Italian side of my family. This year it is just my wife and I. Being Byzantine Catholic we really never had a Holy Supper since everyone including the Slovak side of the family went to my grandparents on the Italian side for the very large family get together back in the day. Now everyone is spread apart by an hour and a half or more away, as far as California (daughter 1).

Daughter 2 is closer around 2.5 hours away, but the Peruvian relatives on her husband's side descend upon her small house on Christmas Eve for "THEIR Holiday" and it is extremely loud, obnoxious partying to 3 or 4 AM in the morning, plus no room at the inn - I'm not going a couple hours away to stay in a hotel. I am more used to a more laid back Christmas Eve with relatives having quiet, non-confrontational conversations unlike the Peruvian relatives who always seem to get into the drama and controversy.

Like @GregInPitt my 22-year old son and wife are making cookies.
Put meats on the grill shortly.
Pick up 89-year old mother and head to CHRISTmas Eve service (children's program).
Back home to watch movies and off to bed in anticipation of Santa Claus, the man with the hair on his jaws.

Enjoy your Mom while you can. Last Christmas was our first with none of our (my wife and my) parents alive. A lonely feeling in some respects, and then on top of that you realize that you are the "old people" from here on in.........

Merry Christmas!

We cherish each gathering.
It was 10 years ago yesterday for my father’s funeral. This is first for my FIL not being with us.
Blessings to you and your wife this CHRISTmas.

It’s a very white food meal for Christmas Eve: cod; homemade pierogies; pagach; stuffed mushrooms; Christmas soup we don’t have any Oplatki (traditional Christmas wafers) but still try to honor the traditional Wiglia for Christmas Eve

Why so white? Is there some religious connection?

Blessed memories for all the relatives everyone has lost. I laid a wreath today at the cemetery for my mom who is gone for 2 Xmas Eves now. I’ll remember my mom and all your relatives who have been lost. Cherish the time we all have, it certainly isn’t guaranteed. Enjoy the day tomorrow wherever you are spending it.
