This may have been posted before, but with it being Friday afternoon, what is the greatest high school football team you have watched or played against in person? Best team I have ever watched would have to be the never punt, onside kicking Pulaski Academy in Arkansas a few years back when they had Hunter Henry's brother on the team. Best team I ever played against was definitely Horn Lake when they had Nakobe Dean. Trying to block that front seven was an absolute nightmare.

I played 1A ball so no really awesome teams but I did play against Steve McNair and he KILLED us almost single-handedly. The rest of his team was average at best.

Played against the undefeated South Panola Tigers during their 80 win streak, I'm a big guy and they made me look small!

Played South Panola 05-07 timeframe. Those boys were massive. It put us out of the playoffs that year.

Watched Olive Branch and South Panola in the north state championship in 2006 at OB. There was talent all over the field with both teams. Lots of D-1 players.

Most overall talent was probably Louisville from about 1994-1998. Recrootin was less of a science back then so many of those guys got overlooked.

Best overall team might be Meridian Tyler Russell’s senior year. 2008 maybe?

Moss Point vs South Panola 1998 was some unbelievable football.

If I can hijack your thread for just a moment, this “High School Redzone” thing they are showing on the Raider Network with Eubanks and Brooks is pretty Good Friday night TV.

The 1975 Mount Olive Pirates. I was only in the 3rd grade but I remember this well. There were only conference championships back then and of course they won but then Petal wanted to play them so Mount Olive went to Petal and Petal won 3-0 on a long 4th FG.
The size of that team was and is unheard of in 1A ball. I'm kin to #'s 86, 82, 32, 70 and 40. I'm 6' and I'm the runt of the family. 86 is 6'4". 82 is coach Joe Flynt who coached at Mize. He is 6'4". 32 is Perry Murphy who coached at Kosciusko and back at Mt. Olive. He is 6'2" and was 1A 1st team All State in baseball, football, basketball and track all 3 years of high school. 70 is 6'6" and around 300lbs. His brother, #40 is 6'8".

Gulfport 1970 team with Melvin Barkum. They won the state championship that year as well as ruining my senior year at Biloxi.

I also played against Cole Smith and Dolla Bill when they were at Pontotoc and Greenwood. Both played LT and were both unbelievably good. I remember lining up against Dolla Bill and thinking he was the biggest human being I have ever seen.

If J-Dawg is who I think he is, he has a pretty good Derek Pegues story.

I guess Stevan Ridley may be the most “famous”, but that was just in a jamboree and he was in 8th or 9th grade. Probably most notable was Will Arnold (was like a three year starter at guard for LSU. Nice guy and he could throw the h3ll out of a shotput at a track meet too.

Madison Central 1999 had 5 players that spent time in the NFL, with 3 having long careers. Plus a few others that played D1 football.
