the NFHS recently posted the rules changes for high school folkstyle wrestling for the coming season.

if you're interested, you can view the changes at this link:

And if you've never been a ref, just imagine an entire book of rules that are written in this style. ;)

God Bless Refs........everywhere.

I ran the OOB lines for my kids soccer team on occasion back in the day. This wasn't travel, but a rec league against clubs from other schools. 3 practices a week. I had so many out of position parents making calls for me.......and the worst were the parents of my kid's team. A couple of times I handed them the flags.......nobody ever actually took them.

I also coached swimming after graduating PSU while working full time. Once in a while there were not enough refs so coaches would agree to rotate through the age groups......you couldn't ref your own kids. Some little 8 year old isn't doing the breaststroke kick right.....fluttering like a butterfly. Now you could raise your hand as soon as they start the illegal kick, but why, the kid is in the water. Parents are screaming, that's illegal and you won't call it, homer, you shouldn't be reffing......... Of course, when the kid touches the wall, I raise my hand, tell the kid they were doing the kick wrong, but they will do better next time. They run off to get their towel and see their friends and have a snack and the parents are still harping. Sometimes I would fix my glasses while looking off into the distance. This was the 80's so there wasn't any video.

I always appreciate wrestlers who thank the refs, no matter what.
