Hockey post: Thrashers moving from Atlanta to Winnipeg

The NHL has more teams moving than any other pro league.
I like ice hockey, but I don't think it will ever truly catch on in the south. For obvious reasons- barring an ice age. I remember the Jackson Bandits- people would show up, no one knew what the heck was going on, and after about a year or two, people lost interest. I know a lot of it was because Bernie Ebbers got arrested, and etc. but, I'm not sure they would have stayed long term.
I do remember going on church night, and there was a huge brawl between the Bandits and the Mississippi Sea Wolves. That was awesome. They dropped the puck, and the gloves came off.

...was that damned Dixie National Rodeo. It compressed the home schedule which severely hurt season ticket sales. Nobody wants to go watch hockey every night. That damn rodeo is a roadblock to any significant sports season ever occurring at the MS Coliseum. Hell no we've got to block out 6-8 weeks for the rodeo! Can't have progress unless we have a rodeo too!

2.) State high school basketball tournament
3.) No beer sales (because most apparently have to drink it to start understanding hockey)
The Coliseum was a terrible venue for a sport that needed home games from January through March. What a colossal cluster-17. The games were entertaining. Still, the worst funk I've ever smelt was sitting in the front row--near the bench--at a Bandits game.

in terms of performance: Dallas, Tampa, Carolina and Anaheim have all won the Stanley Cup. Nashville's been in the playoffs several times. I'm not sure how well they do in terms of attendance, which is probably what the NHL is really concerned about; and yes, they over-expanded and sold out some established fan bases (Minneapolis, Hartford, etc.) in the past. I still doubt kids in the new places grow up knowing the game and playing pick-up hockey. If you want support for teams during the lean years when the novelty has worn off, you need those types. Rumor has it, the Coyotes (who used to be in Winnipeg) will be the next to move.
this is the first NHL team in 14 years to move, the last one being the Winnipeg Jets to Phoenix. They listed other franchises likely to move in the next few years, including the New Orleans Hornets, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills & Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Bills already play a game or two per year in Toronto and Toronto wants them really bad.
