Nope. Down 2-1. Having trouble controlling the puck and passing to teammates

I still don’t understand why we aren’t better. Great facilities and Guy‘s been at this a while. What is the problem?

That is the love and hate of Hockey. Somewhere in there is the need for "puck luck". 100 shots combined in two periods is incredible. So far both goalies/ defense deserve some love.

My point is that minnesota is ranked #5 and PSU is unranked. Guy has been at PSU for years and PSU has first-rate facilities. Why isn’t PSU better? Where is the talent? Is it coaching?

Got it. PSU is there. Like you stated everything is there for Penn State hockey to succeed. I don't know the specifics about this season. Still a dangerous hockey team any game! Some of the most "stacked" Minnesota teams have had non productive teams. Not watching, but listening. Sounds like one great game!

Should Penn State focus more on the Northeast and the talent there? Would setting up more long term series with schools like Boston College, Boston U, Maine, and UNH increase PSU hockey’s reach into the northeast hockey areas and help with recruiting and interest?

Sometimes I think we’re a fish out of water being tied to the Midwest in sports, especially with a sport like hockey which is so regionally focused.

Sadly getting closer to Bye Bye Guy time. Goalie is going to be a position of significant weakness next year unless he gets a portal goalie. He should get 2 more seasons to get program back to where it needs to be or 🚀 him.

Until Sandy’s gone I don’t see him getting fired. (Frankly, I don’t follow them closely enough to know if he even should be fired).

What do people think are the main issues with the team? Coaching? Recruiting? Trying to get kids from the northeast to join a team and league that’s centered in the Midwest? Not having the pedigree of other hockey schools in the northeast? Or just some bad luck and an off year or two?

Penn State in terms of tenure is still a pretty new program. Recruiting in the NE against many longer established programs. Most of the BIG teams are long time powers. PSU is still not recruiting at the level of a Minny, Mich, Wisky, etc. I think they do better than expected based on talent.

Recruiting for college hockey is weird. A lot of these kids are playing junior hockey in the Midwest from the time they’re in 9th grade and they’re getting college offers when they’re very young. Even foreign players are over here, and Canadians are in their respective regions. It’s a real crapshoot. Many freshmen are 20 years old.

Just got home to Delco from Hockey Valley. That was a tough one. Somewhat young team, so hopefully they claw their way back towards being a tourney-worthy team next season. Saw this on the Twitters and hadn't realized that the Gophers' coach lost his son last year:

I was at both games this weekend. Minny had the Lions overwhelmed for most of both games. Fridays game could have, should have been worse than it was. Saturday's game the Lions came out really aggressive and physical and it made a difference. But, it didn't last unfortunately.
The talent doesnt seem to be there like 2020 and before.

Two years ago before Covid interrupted our lives, the hockey team won the regular season conference crown, and was a lock for the NCAA Tourney. Then 10 seniors graduated. That’s a lot of talent to replace. Watching last night the announcers said freshman and sophomores were responsible for 54% of our scoring this year. I think this is a plus for the next 2 years. I think talk of bouncing Guy is very premature. You could be on to something regarding East coast players not wanting to play for a Midwestern conference. It seems to me that in hockey we just can’t reload, we need to rebuild.
