This is still the most boneheaded thing I have ever seen a head coach do. The arrogance it took to completely flush the air raid when it is your first head coaching gig that you have to know you only got because the planets aligned AND all you have are air raid players is astounding.

Anyone with a lick of common sense would have gone to the offensive staff and said its all yours, let’s see what we can do.

ETA: our administration also should have told him as much

Probably a net positive as it hastened putting all fundng in baseball and basketball. Football is essentially throwing good money after bad at this point.

Yeah. I assume Arnett was told to flush the air raid. That's the only logical conclusion for that decision at that time.
Of course he was. We have the dumbest fanbase in America. Take a look at the post you responded to......a guy actually said the Air Raid sucked, and we have plenty others who believe that. This is why our football program has sucked historically.

Perhaps Arnett had grown tired of of watching his defense be put in poor positions by 3 and outs that ran 30 seconds off the clock or be stymied by drop 8 rush 3.

On the other hand, either the talent really dropped off after Leaches passing or he was a damn good coach to win 9 games in his last year.

I hated the air raid. I was absolutely miserable watching us kick the living **** out of LSU and rolling back against Auburn. That day we whipped AM in College Station was one of the worst days of my life rivaled only by blowing out Arkansas in Starkville **

Did you even watch our games? Or are you an idiot? We constantly had the time of possession advantage because the short high percentage passes kept the clock running. That horrible year we won 9 games, we led in time of possession in all but two games.

A room full of P4 and NFL head coaches listening to the rewritten history, lies, smears and half truths the C34 crowd tells about Leach would leave them dumbfounded.

He transitioned to an offense reliant on tight ends. We had a total of zero tight ends on the roster if I am not mistaken
Yea so they made a freshman lineman a tight end. It took real creativity to only win five games with that roster.

No only that, but he hired some G5 guy who hadn't been that successful. Not that I'm that enamored with him, but remember when the rumor was we were getting Kendall Briles? I got that, but abandoning the Air Raid for freaking Kevin Barbay? Hell naw.

Well, the silver lining is we learned our lesson about hiring first time head coaches without a plan for them to bring on experienced assistants. Can you imagine the disaster We’d have if we made back to back hires where we paired a first time head coach with an inexperienced coordinator on the opposite side of the ball? Luckily nobody is that 17ing stupid.

One of things often overlooked in the discussions about the Air Raid is that it sucks.
Agree.

The Air Raid offense sucks *ss. Please God, let me never witness that BS ever again.

Completed pass for a 4-yard loss? No thanks.

Dont worry, something tells me it will be many years before you suffer through another nine win season.
Arnett and the RuNdAbAwL brigade’s decision will likely go down as one of the worst decisions EVER made in the history of MSU football. It really exposed our shltty football culture more than ever before. And when you couple that with the hiring of Selmon, it’s crippling.

Hiring Moorhead was another bad one, that Cohen likely won’t live down, but he did correct it, and at least he had a plan of what he wanted to do. We have nothing right now.

Win or lose, at least we won't suffer the abomination of an Air Raid offense . . . I hope.
