I recall watching that. Was a heartbreaker. It’s a shame Furman is no longer good.Bitter loss for Furman. Terrible dagger to the hearts of their players, coaches, and fans. Not quite on the same scale but it reminds me of the 1985 loss their football team took in the I-AA championship game when Dick Sheridan was coaching there and Erk Russell was coaching Ga. Southern. It was as good a college football game as anyone has ever seen, a seesaw affair that saw Furman lose at the very end. Sheridan says he has never looked at he tapes of that game.

Thanks. Erk should have been a head coach sooner. He might have moved up.I got copies of all six GS I-AA championship games on DVD if you want to see it again, King. Furman was a great rival of GS back in the day.

He was a difference-maker for Vince Dooley. That split-six was a great defense.Erk was one of a kind and one of my favorite coaches in any sport.
He should be in College Football Hall of Fame ...

I was on the sideline that game. Didn't get in to play, but it was crazy. We did win it all in 1988...Bitter loss for Furman. Terrible dagger to the hearts of their players, coaches, and fans. Would u have them been over or just stand up like they do in closets?screw furman
And after Erk said, thanks, but no thanks….He was a hell of a defensive coach and smart enough to let Paul Johnson run the offense at GS.
When Dooley retired UGA offered the job to Erk -- who turned it down. UGA then said the job was never offered it to him. Can't remember what year it was, but Erk was ready to hang it up and did after that perfect season at GS.
Was that Satterfield coaching when Furman won? That 1985 loss to which I was referring was as tough a loss as I ever saw a team take. Honestly, neither team deserved to lose.I was on the sideline that game. Didn't get in to play, but it was crazy. We did win it all in 1988...
I wonder why Furman changed their sports nickname from Purple Hurricanes to the Paladins?
