How did Bremer and company put together such a strong team this year? As good as any in the nation at this point in the season! ***

Maybe he's actually a good coach. Not something I felt...at all...after Game 1. This team has undergone the most dramatic transformation any Gamecock team ever has. Largely mirrored by Seller's development during the season.

Next season will be the tell.

I’m not sure “next season will be the tell.” Why not use this season? Why not include his first season when the pundits were predicting a maximum of 3 wins and he got to 7 wins, including a bowl? Then, he followed it up with 8 wins and a bowl game the next. 3 out of 4 years he’s performed above expectations.

My point is he’s done very well considering the situation. USC is not a traditional powerhouse that can and should pull in highly ranked recruits. But with the new dynamics in college sports, we are seeing that even Michigan, Florida State, Georgia, Alabama, LSU etc. are having a hard time sustaining high levels of success from year-to-year.

It will be the tell in terms of consistency. Key catalysts for our success this year were portal players...Simon, Kennard, Sanders.

With the portal, it just makes it so hard to say what a team will look like from one season to the next. Beamer pushed the right buttons with the portal additions. He'll have to do it again.

The Portal. He has done well to fill our recruiting needs with quality players. In 2 of the 3 years in the Portal, he brought in a Top 10 or near Top 10 class. Then when the season rolled around, he produced in 2022 and 2024. In the year he had a poor Portal class, the 2023 season was the result.

South Carolina will never consistently out recruit the big boys. We never have. The key will always be to "fill our recruiting needs" with quality players. Then follow that up with good coaching and player development.

Yep. It's hard to hit on the portal every single year. Just ask Mike Norvell.

1984 team needed a trick play at the end to beat Citadel in its opening game. Went on to the opportunity to be in position to play for the national championship. That after three straight losing seasons and only three 8 win seasons in our history.

Some can't see the forest for the trees.

Next season will be no more of a tell than this one or last year.

I'm excited for the offense next year. I really like how Nyck Harbor is developing. He's had half of his 22 receptions the last 4 games. He could eat up a lot of the receptions we lose with Josh Simon leaving. I think Michael Smith and Brady Hunt will be able to handle the TE position.

I agree. It’s hard to see the big picture when we compare USC to the perennial powers. But even they are finding it difficult to keep their high recruits and sustain success like in the past. As we all know, college sports has and will continue to change. Its impact is being felt by all programs.

The exciting fact is, Beamer has built momentum at USC on par with Spurrier. He’s actually one game better than Spurrier was after 4 years.

@18IsTheMan has a point, though. At this juncture in his career (4 years in), fans gave Spurrier a longer leash due to his past success at Duke and Florida. Beamer doesn‘t have that history. . . Yet.
But he’s on his way!

I'm thinking the amount of Seniors I heard on this team hurting us. Like you stated, the Portal will hopefully fill our needs.

Next season will be the tell? What does that mean?

He has the best record for a coach in his first 4 seasons and has room for one more. He has given us the most exciting season in the past 10 years. The only thing for him to prove is can he get us to an SEC championship game or into the playoffs (still a chance at that).

I think Beamer is doing a good job. It’s really hard to build a program with NIL and the portal. However, he pulled in some great players for this year. Hopefully he can do it again.

I wonder if the poor season in 2023 had anything to do with injuries?

Recruiting and portal is always going to be hit or miss. But we hit on good ones in 2023 from the portal.
Trey Knox
Joshua Simon
Mario Anderson

I saw the biggest problem (besides injuries) was the poor culture left behind from Muschamp. We had several players transfer out that were big contributors.

It’s more surprising to me that most years the teams underachieve rather than them playing well this year. Most seasons is a top 20 team nationally in talent on the roster. It’s been this way for 15-20 years. I mean Washington made the National Championship with with a less talented team per talent composite. It’s about playing with attitude and being a winner. This team knows how good they are collectively.

It’s really a combination of things.

Portal - Beamer has done very well with portal additions, but he has not built the whole roster on the portal, aka FSU

Recruiting - Of course he hasn’t recruited at the same level as Bama, but who has? But in case you haven’t noticed, the player of the game was recruited from HS, not the portal

Player development - How many times have we griped about players not developing well? I just watched Sellers throw to Harbor through the whole second half of the season. Yes, the interception at Clemson was probably on Harbor, but lord knows those two have improved dramatically

And now for my controversial statement…
I think he’s got two pretty good coordinators, too 🙈
