Most coaches will spout some line about recruiting being about building relationships. And there's the age-old recruiting line: "We want the players who want to be here."
Has portal and NIL changed all that though? Do coaches even bother worrying about that anymore? It's very clear relationships do NOT matter anymore. No coach in America puts more emphasis on relationship than Beamer, and we've seen what that's worth to players. Is it simply a matter of: are you willing to at least be on our roster for next season in exchange for x dollars?
In this new era, what do we have to offer recruits if relationship is meaningless? We can't offer competitive money. We can't offer a chance to compete for titles.
