Until we can put up 21-35 points on a regular basis, I will live in fear of the embarassing upsets.

although I'm still not sold on McCorvey or this offense. Man, how cool would it be for the offense to carry it's damn weight and put us in position to shock some people. If we could somehow knock off Georgia Tech ....

TEE IT UP, MFers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who, other than LSU and TN, would be considered a Knock Off this year? Ga Tech? that will be a relatively easy W for us.

to your way of thinking, but I ain't there yet, woolboy.

GT on the heels of Auburn would be a knock off.

however, those who question whether last season was a good indicator of what this season holds are being objective. there are areas of concern, and for you to think that La. Tech is a gimme is a mistake. remember halftime of the tulane game last year? remember that feeling, and you will see where they are coming from.

Were you at the UAB or Ole Miss games last year? Those were terrible teams that almost kicked our ***.

We win 8 games again this fall and you'll see a more confident group of 6-packers this time next year. But the nature of this board is to be negative. There is another board you could go to if all you want to hear is optimism though.

I would argue that getting to 7 or more wins requires our offense to have made substantial improvements. If that happens I would also argue that our '09 year would be as good or better considering what we would have coming back.

I would say at least one more convincing winning season for people not to be AS weary as they are now. It doesn't just go back to 2001 either. State fans have never been able to be sure of anything for too long.

fools gold holy grail cup till I see a consistant offense on the field against our higher rated SEC bretheren. If McCorvey keeps offense ranked anywhere close to 100th this season I want to see mayflower trucks in his yard gettin er done.

We haven't shown enough improvement for me to get confident by a long shot. With our offensive mindset I'm getting visions of La Tech and Arky State from the early 90's. When we bring back the swagger of the late 90's and stop looking like a juco squad I'll start believing we can walk through these type of games.

Coming off a winning season where all of the big wins (minus UK) were close games is reason to be a little nervous, but it's not a reason to collectively crap our pants regarding the La Tech. Game.

I don't know, I fear my scars are permamnent. The most wooly I've ever been about MSU is regards to an upcoming season was 2001. I was hoping that maybe we could knock LSU off so that we could go to the SEC Championship again. I fully expected JLD to take a bunch of JUCO players and work his magic again. I knew that Ray Ray couldn't be caught in a phone booth and that Hargro was the next Randy Moss. We had Dontae, and I just totally overlooked the fact that he had gain 250 pounds in the offseason, I mean Jerome Bettis, right? And we had Dicenzo. They were going to rush for 1,000 a piece in a bad year. Then the o-line was huge. And Jackie like John Micheal Marlin, not that we would need him averaging 30 points a game, and our recruiting class was loaded. Heck, I was even high on our walk-ons. Man, Curtis Kemp isn't a bad third QB.

And then PLOP! The sound of **** hitting the fan.

Now, I would be skeptical if we had Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Payton, Barry Sander, Emmitt Smith, Micheal Irvin on offense, LT, Reggie White, Singletary, Howie Long, Lott, and Deion Sanders on defense, an o-line with Bruce Matthews, and Anthony Munoz, and Morten Andersen and Ray Guy on ST ALL on the same team. It wouldn't matter if we had the Bear coaching MSU with Alabama recruiting previlages and we were allowed to give recruits strippers, whores, food, a music contract, and a custom fully loaded Porshe. I'm not even excited about our current recruiting class, honestly. I more excited about the fact that Croom's dumb *** FINALLY has recruited some WR's, regardless of skill level or stars.

Heck, I'm standing by my 3-9 prediction, especially since so many people have said that there's "no way that we finish with less than 5 wins". Oh yes there is. Just like when people in 2002 said "There's no way that we can be worse in 2003". MSU can ALWAYS pull off being worse. It's uncanny. If we lose to La Tech, I would not be shocked at all. In fact I fully expect us to come out totally unpreared and look like we've A. Never seen a football before and B have never seen any game film. I also expect us to get royally screwed in some ridiculous way by the officials, even though they are SEC officials. Offensive pass interference on a wide open WR, intentional grounding, holding, illegal hands to the face, illegal block, illegal tackle, illegal formation, forward pass to an ineligible WR when we're in the I-formation celebration, excessive celebration, halo violation- even though they don't enfore it any more, one of the officials doing our game will "forget", and a cowbell penalty.

I'm one of those people that looked for a flag on AJ's 100 yard TD run, which to me is as much a miracle as the 100 yard pick 6 since it was Bama, the guy that was checking the wind during the Egg Bowl when Carlson was lining up his GW FG. I am the guy in the stands that reminds everyone that "we still have to make the extra point for the tie/lead." I take nothing for granted. I was worried when we played Gardner-Webb last year.

It's sad. I'm scarred for life. I don't think winning a NC- real or perceived- can fully heal the damage that's been done.

Thanks Jackie.

You could substitute Tom Brady, Peyton Manning (that would be fun to watch THAT shitstorm if he came to State), Ladanian Tomlinson, Randy Moss- the real one, Tony Gonzalaz, TO, Urlacher, Jason Taylor, Ed Reed, Champ Bailey, Devin Hester, Adam Vinateri, you get the picture.

it is surprising to me that so many are ruling out the possibility of us going back into the tank. We are MSU, after all.

I guess, in a sick way, that I'm glad I wasn't the only one during AJ's INT return looking for the flag. I thought it was just me that was that obsessed w/anticipating the worst.

I can get a tad wooly, but I've seen to much to fully buy in for good. It hurts to much to put any of your hopes and dreams into Mississippi State. It's better to keep a semi-professional distance. I'll give money, I'll show up, I'll cheer like hell, but I only let myself care so much.

but I'm not gonna consider us out of the woods until we have success NEXT year. I think that will be the better indicator. This year there is no excuse to not win 6 games. There are two new coaches in the west, and new offenses at two other west schools, Vandy and Kentucky on the schedule, also an easier non-conference schedule. For those reasons anything under six wins should be unacceptable for our program. That doesnt mean those wins are gonna be "given" to us and it is tough for me to definitively pick those six wins on our schedule. But if we cant get it done this year, we wont get it done. Everyone seems to think that Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Bama are going to be much better in the future, but someone at the top will have to get worse for that to happen. Something has got to give. For these reasons I'm waiting till next year before i get too wooly. Lets see how we do when these new coaches have had the same amount of time Croom has had (although that wont happen because they will all get canned if it takes them as long as Croom). I'm very excited about our prospects, but looking at the schools we have to compete against i think long term success is gonna be difficult for us. For football at MSU we have to just try to stay in the middle of the pack and have those rogue years where we can make some noise.

I disagree State has potential even if im just a damn optimistic person but if we come out strong this year and next i think we can be more than 'middle of the pack'
