Was hoping the article would actually shed some light on a weird decision, but all it says is about him leaving here "He was the Gamecocks' leading rusher in 2023, carrying 143 times for 707 yards. But he wanted a different role for his final collegiate season."

I don't know what other role he would have been looking for as he would likely have been our projected lead back had he returned.

Oh well, it worked out fine for us in the end, picking up Sanders. Still a weird decision.

Wow, he wanted a different role than leading rusher on an SEC team? What does that mean, he wants to try his hand at being the #2 guy at a G5 school?

Makes me wonder if we wanted to upgrade and he knew he was probably going to be back in a backup role. The fact is he didn’t end up at Ole Miss, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, etc…he took a step down to Memphis.

Sure it had a lot to do with $$, but I’d bet we’re paying Sanders more than Mario is getting paid at Memphis. I could be wrong about that though. But my point remains that we weren’t desperate for him to stay. He played good for us when we were terrible in the running game. But he didn’t play good enough to go to a better team.

I agree, he was good for us and a very pleasant surprise, but not good enough to hold us hostage over NIL money.

A HS coach who knows Anderson said the kid was told by Beamer he wasn’t good enough to be RB1 at SC. We may have been open to keeping him but he was not a priority
