Dear Mr. Tanner,The stands were pretty empty this year; behind home plate and all over the stadium. The fans have spoken loud and clear. Does Kingston get another year?
Hope notThe stands were pretty empty this year; behind home plate and all over the stadium. The fans have spoken loud and clear. Does Kingston get another year?
Why is his seat not hot right now?As I've stated in several previous threads, I think Kingston will be on the USC hot seat in 2023.
I do believe a couple more players have potential to be drafted. These pro scouts can see potential to develop, unlike our current HC.From my viewpoint the Board of Trustees made a concerned effort to build a first class baseball facility. The proof is in the pudding as they say. When USC had really good teams even the midweek games were really good, weekend SEC games were sold to capacity of over 8,000. All the people who worked there in concessions, parking, ticket sales. sales from uniforms were doing really well. The people who paid USC to set up a stand to sell hotdogs, hamburgers, ice cream were all making good money. Now with the stands being 99% empty noone is making money from parking revenue to sales in Gamecock shirts, concessions. USC is taking a blood bath in lost revenue. If anyone thinks this can go on like this well I have a free pass for Britany Greiner. Leave it at that. I will be the first to admit that Kingston has had a tremendous amount of injuries especially to the pitching staff. Also if you look at the roster it has to be upgraded with higher level players. None of the players on this team with the exception of Evan Stone and maybe Josiah Sightler will get an opportunity to play MLB. We do not have a catcher on the team to speak of. Time and time again the catcher lets balls go on plays that should have been made. The second baseman we have can play defense, but when he bats I have seen him look at 3 straight pitches without swinging the bat. He is not the only one. USC is last in batting, fielding percentage is at the bottom. The only elite player on defense may be the centerfielder, but he is a freshman and hopefully he will improve on his hitting. To be honest this team is not a NCAA tourney team. There are two pitchers who will have a chance at MLB. Will Sanders and the young man who transferred from Appalachian State.
I would suggest that the pitching staff injuries cools the seat to some degree. Why is his seat not hot right now?
Unfortunately you are probably correctI would suggest that the pitching staff injuries cools the seat to some degree.
Yes, and you have to give a coach a "reasonable" time to correct the situation. I define "reasonable" as 2023. I do think that the pandemic bought Frank Martin an extra year or so he otherwise should not have gotten. And to not capitalize on the 2017 FF run is basically unforgivable.Unfortunately you are probably correct
The BOT fiasco more than anything.I would suggest that the pitching staff injuries cools the seat to some degree.
What does that have to do with attendance here? When we are winning we don't need gimmicks to fill the seats.Virginia is 37-13 and ranked #12 nationally. It has drawn record crowds this season but only after it started admitting up to 4 children (18 and under) free with 1 paid adult.
And never would have needed such had our competitiveness continued uninterrupted. What does that have to do with attendance here? When we are winning we don't need gimmicks to fill the seats.
Apparently the dogs did not want to see us lose any more than their family did.Hey, we now have - "BARK IN THE PARK" Promotion. People get to bring their dog and sit on the berm and grass area behind right field on Mid Week games.
Do dogs count on the attendance figures???
Can kids slide down the berm easier on the "enhanced" grass??
I could see Landon being offered and turning it down.Is it a smart move when you're trailing by one run going into 9 and have the first batter fake bunt attempt on taking first pitch right down the middle. Lucky Wimmer wasn't caught off first. I think the Fl player was out at home but I guess baseball rules allow jarring the ball loose. Bring home Powell.
You may be right.I could see Landon being offered and turning it down.
Tanner extended Kingston last summer--who knows why--so Kingston's buyout is $2.2 million.
No way the BoT approves that buyout. Kingston will be back for another subpar year. We'll be bottom 3 of the SEC in record, team batting and fielding percentage.
Side note: Chad Holbroke won CAA Coach of the Year. It's fun here!

I think he would turn it down not because of any kind of "toxicity" at USC, but because he has a good stable life in Greenville. You may be right.
It more than that…..think the ying & the yang….it could well provide him financial security for the wife & kids….gawd knows he needs to get away from the Gvl dinning tables……but yer right, could his heart put up from the constant crapola the ignorants of cola would place on it…….he’s in a good place now.I think he would turn it down not because of any kind of "toxicity" at USC, but because he has a good stable life in Greenville.
Exactly. This alone could save his job.. We aren't LSU.Tanner extended Kingston last summer--who knows why--so Kingston's buyout is $2.2 million.
