How much would you give?

Buying some lottery tickets as stocking stuffers for the fam tonight. Looks like Mega millions hit a billion or $250 ish million cash after lump some and taxes.

If you won, how much would you give to Mississippi State? I feel like 4-5 years ago I would have said $50 million and it would have been huge for the athletic department. These days I have to wonder if I would give a dime with how NIL is going. It just feels like if you sit on the big donation for a few years this stuff might stabilize... But $8 million for the Tulane QB scares the shìt outta me. $50 million could go really fast without anything to show for it these days. See Texas A&M and Ole Miss

Obviously putting the entirety of the balance into Bitcoin and Fartcoin.

I’d build a Vegas style resort east of campus near GTR.

I’d have indoor and outdoor pools with private bars on each. Hotel. Golf course. DNF style condos behind the 17th green.

Breakfast tent behind clubhouse cooks up fresh doughnuts, omelets, and Irish coffee served by topless hostesses.

I’d live on the premises and host players and recruits for ALL sports. I’ll have a few cadets from C-AFB on call to strip those unis for any ladies who swing that way.

Every one of these entitled and unproven CFB recruits must spend a few days soaking up some rays and babes, and after dinner they will be vetted by me personally. If they want money from me, they had better damned well sell it to me, or here’s your ticket, best of luck to you, never come back.

Contracts will include generous incentive schedules, merit bonuses for each year he/she re-signs, and inversely, clawback clauses for transfers, quitters, and toxic locker-room divas.

There shall be 50 condos constructed for top players in each of the top 6 sports. Those residents will stay there for free, and a few will be set aside as housing for those “Rudys” who display special leadership and work ethic. These must be elected by their teammates.

Not every girl would do stuff for a million dollars, but the kind that would double up on a guy like me would.

Anyway, after that, yeah I'd give 20mil or so if I had a billion and assume that would last 1 year. So maybe put it on repeat til I only had 100mil left then stop. Fun to think about.

I’ll never say never because I think that this circus just has to calm down one day, and I’d love to help make sure that we hang on to dawgs like Hubbard and Cam.

I’ll have to pass on lining the pockets of these football mercenaries and their “handlers” though. I’d get a better ROI from putting all my savings towards snatching up hawk tua coins than buying into this horse****

Right now it's 2.3 million a year after taxes for 30 years. Or a single 30 million payout. I would have a few things to do with my 2.3 for a few years. After thst I might give half a mill a year. That's about it

You're probably looking at Powerball. Mega Millions is the $1bn prize.

After 37% federal tax (if you don't find a shelter of sorts) and state tax it's about $260 million.

Here's the payout of the annuity if you live in MS:

Not one damn dime —- MSU would find a way to 17 it all away and probably have the audacity to come back and ask for more just to 17 that away, also.

There are causes that are far more worthy than the unholy mix athletics and higher education.

Go get VCs and institutional investors — that’s where this model is at today. Quit juicing the fans and the alumni.

Unfortunately, it's alumni that have been driving this thing for a long time. Since the 70s.

Steven Godfrey did a podcast this past fall called Who Killed College Football. He blamed television, conferences, the NCAA, coaches/agents and the government - all to say that there is no one in particular. But to me.....he left out alumni. THAT is the demand for NIL, not actual marketing value. Look at the ON3 valuations - the only ones there who have any value outside of 'winning' are the top 4: Sanders (family name), Hunter (social media), Manning (family name), and Dunne (for obvious reasons). The rest is based on alumni boosters attempts to win. It's a strange, strange dynamic. 3 big events got us to this point, and alumni drove it all:

1) The probation scandals over alumni paying players
2) The repeated issues and court cases involving merchandise, most of which is alumni fan driven;
3) Coaching salaries, again, driven by crazy alumni.

I really think the answer would have been for the NCAA to go hardcore toward amateurism way back in the day. After SMU and Miami, they had to have seen the money problem coming. Set some stipends in place, and then increase them rationally based on revenue across the spectrum. No video games, no jersey sales, none of that. Work with the NFL to allow players to go pro anytime. If you're in college, you're in college. Set caps on coaching salaries. Decrease the amount of donor money influencing things. Everybody wins. Toothpaste and tube now.

Yes, I would give some. However, how much would depend on what the school needed or wanted to do. I would want to give for a capital improvement with my name on it. I would NOT give to NIL......unless they gave me Matthew McConaughey sideline access and my own office in the football building.

Things Id want done on campus. Bulldoze that west side. Rebuild with something similar to Oregon St.
Or bulldoze the buildings NE of the stadium, Stafford, Moore.....and rebuild with modern buildings.
Or beautification of Hardy Street and the adjacent buildings.

I don't know if I could make it on $325+ MM (Being married), but I'd give. No idea the tax break but seems it would be a consideration. I'd also have a great accountant at that point though, so we'd figure it out.

I've had day dreams of doing something similar. There is a need for upscale hotel space in the area. Visiting teams are staying in Tupelo and Tuscaloosa. WHo would use it? In coming teams to Starkville for one. Then hopefully youth baseball, volleyball, soccer and basketball would support the remaining weeks of the year.

In Columbus, I would buy up all that property on 45N from the Leigh mall to the LaQuinta. Bulldoze the malls and old hotels. Make it a blank slate. Rebuild there with a large hotel with meeting space to accommodate visiting teams to Starkville. THen build a large indoor sports complex with turf for soccer and baseball. Also, indoor courts for basketball and volleyball. Host a ton of youth tournaments on the off weekends at Mississippi State.

Maybe if I won the lottery, I’d ask how much would I have to give in order for MSU Athletics to -never- have LED lighting and remove already-installed LED lights from its facilities.

17 LED

No question. Multiple failure points, but it is the greed of higher education leadership over time that have had a huge hand in that. They are responsible for the NCAA leadership

I agree with you that there is not a “single cause,” but now it’s universities now need to sleep in the bed they themselves made
