How old is Polk again?

I ask because he sure does act childish at times. This whole Raffo thing is just childish and unprofessional behavior. Getting yourself thrown out just so you can have him manage against the rumored #1 candidate? Seriously Polk? That's just ridiculous. We're seeing Polk for exactly what he is, an egotistical, stubborn old fart whose whole life revolves around baseball. I appreciate everything he has done here and for SEC baseball in general, but come on. Quit acting like such a child about things and let our AD do his job without trying to divide the MSU fanbase in order to get your way. After all, the AD will be judged by this hire, not you. Also, as someone pointed out recently, this isn't Ron Polk University. Deflate your ego a couple of notches.

...and single and you've never had a family. You have no perspective. And when you get toward the end of your days, you want to look back and see that your life meant something. Other people have children and spouses to enjoy and be proud of. Polk has none of this, and the only thing his life has ever been about is baseball, and so it becomes impossible to accept that he is not a god in this arena that he has poured himself 110% into. It's really kind of sad, but it's also something that we can't let influence our decision making. You would think putting somebody's name on a stadium, cutting his number into the grass, and letting him name his replacement one time, and then hiring him back would be enough.

not having a family seems to tell me he was totally focused on his job. I figured as soon as he got thrown out you idiots would think he did this only for the sake of getting Raffo in at third in this situation (against Cohen, the guy everybody wants). If Raffo argued the first call, then it probably deserved being tossed over. Hell even Jim said it looked like he was 2 steps passed the bag when he made the catch. The second heave-ho was obviously coming because of the opposite call when we had a chance to get the same safe call at first base on a bang-bang play. But you guys are entitled to your opinion to...

so I take that as a plus instead of a guy who has other things on his mind. He is totally focused on MSU and college baseball. I just don't understand why everyone can't except the fact that college baseball has parity now and Polk hasn't all of a sudden begun to suck and lost all of his baseball knowledge. He is the same coach (and the only 1) to take 3 different schools to the CWS. He is the same guy that is more than just well-respected by all other baseball coaches in the entire country. He is in the top ten in most wins and among currently active coaches. Give the man his props. Too many fans love the guy who's winning all the time and then turn their back on him as soon as he starts to decline. Hell we just went to the CWS last year. We're still successful, everybody has just caught up to us.

I've said over and over again that he deserves a ton of praise for what he's done here at State and for the SEC in general. That being said, he doesn't get the right to name his successor aGAIN. He's not the AD. He's retiring and he gave his reccomendation, now he needs to just finish out the season and ride off into the sunset and allow the AD to do his job without handcuffing him and dividing the fanbase. What he's doing now is very selfish, very childish, and very unprofessional.

the person and his relationship with MSU deserves to have his picture on the cover of Psychology Today. Polk`s a strange man and in many ways he`s had a strange career. He`s survived by building relationships and occasionaly flirting with greatness at a school that more times than not has desperately needed something/anything to hang our hat on in athletics. I`m not sure that in the purest sense the man was ever a "great" baseball coach but he damn sure parlayed the things he could do into a long successful career .</p>
