I'm sure family fights will be breaking out all over Lion country when the subject of Levis vs Clifford comes up

The Will Levis discussion

So will Levis (no pun intended) be to Franklin as Hostetler was to Paterno?
Hostetler? I never unserstood the criticism of Joe for picking Todd over Ole Hoss after the Giants won the Super Bowl. Hoss never beat Penn State. Blackledge won a national championship.

Well Blackledge led the team to National Championship and Clifford played better this year than Levis. I don’t give a royal rat’s you know what about what Hostetter did in the pros or what Levis might do. Paterno and Franklin’s job is to pick the best QB for Penn State and they both succeeded.

Nothing but good wishes for Will Levis and his NFL future, He did what was best for him and James Franklin did what was best for PSU. No one in my family ever thought Levis was better than Clifford. Next year when Allar proves to be human, the same butt wipes will be on the Veilleux never got a chance campaign. We have some of the best second and third guessers in college football.

Yep

As for Levis, the Wildcat gunslinger has 23 interceptions to his name over the last two seasons in just 636 attempts, a rate of one interception every 27.6 attempts. Depending on how good you are at rounding, that’s not far off from an interception rate twice that of Clifford’s.

Additionally, Kentucky ranks 114th in the nation in passes attempted, and while being a run-oriented offense is a perfectly fine thing, it’s strange to think a team could possess a Top 2 quarterback talent but actively have very little interest in throwing the ball. In his first year as as starter Kentucky ranked 88th in passing attempts in 2021.

PSU had a better team, not that TB was a better QB than Hoss. I think PSU is just fine if Hoss were chosen over Blacklegde.

Levis is better than Clifford, it's ok JF and co screwed the pooch on this one, it happens and I'm sure it'll happen again. Good luck to both of them moving forward, one in the NFL and the other in the business world.

Clifford 43 TD passes and 15 INTs in the last 2 years.

Levis 43 TD passes and 23 INTs in the same time period.

Both schools had basically the same Run Game stats over that 2 year period, so that had no effect on the Passing Stats or on the INTs differential.

I saw Will fumble twice inside the 20 Yardline going in vs Ole Miss in the last 3 minutes of Kentucky's loss by 3 points , so there's that. Thank goodness CJF has an affinity for screwable pooches.

Possibly.
i would take Blackledge national championship any day of the week. Last two years 20-21,was more on franklin than if he kept Levi’s. Yes our record would have been better but our lines were awful so maybe two more wins each year? Clifford did pretty well this year and could bring home a rose bowl title. Now that would be something since only Collins did that. (Robinson did the same technically but had to play the orange bowl.)

I always rooted for hostetler and when he won the super bowl that was something. Will do the same for Levis.

No pooches were screwed. There is no data that says Levis would have led Penn State to a better record as QB1. Clifford doesn’t get hurt last year, record is better. Maybe Levis gets us an extra win or two filling in for Clifford while hurt. Levis’ only value would have been as a backup when Clifford got hurt.

I wish Levis the best, but he never showed at UK that he could be a difference maker or take over a game when team needed him to do so. He only did that in the fantasy world of fans that want to hate on Franklin.

Kind of like playing a team ranked dead last in the Country in pass defense and then running the ball.

Levis was given chances at PSU. At one point in the COVID year CJF benched Clifford and started Levis. He also played a significant amount due to Clifford injuries. If memory serves me he did not set the world on fire during those starts.

The rumor mill says that there is a 50-50 chance that Will Levis goes before Bryce Young with CJ Stroud dropping down into the teens. Most recently M. Kiper has been chirping about this possibility on ESPN. Whatever the scenario and no matter how it plays out, I wish both Levis and Clifford the very best!

Well if Mel Kiper is predicting it, it MUST be accurate.

Hard to compare two QBs on two different teams with different supporting cast. Just looked at their stats, hard to argue that Levis had significantly more interceptions. Otherwise very similar in many stats. One thing jumped out, that Clifford's stats over 4 years as starter never seemed to improve. Then again he had, what, 3 different offensive coordinators? Seems like Franklin went with the more cautious conservative pick (no oun intended)
