It’s the most oblong gulf low I’ve ever seen.

That's just one thing I love about weather. It's always throwing something different at you. To me, this looks like a relatively disorganized area of low pressure getting stretched by strong SW shear. Or it could just be a really 17ed up looking area of low pressure if I were to use scientific jargon.
