Um let’s revisit this in a few weeks after we play the schedule we are about to play.

The 2024 defense hasn't played anyone yet though. Those numbers will get worse. A lot worse.

Edit: Throw out the EKU game and 2024 is giving up 38.7 ppg. And that's without playing a ranked team yet.

Cooper's 2003 defense is the correct comparison instead of Sirmon's 2016 defense because both Cooper & Hutzler are beyond incompetent. I don't think Cooper ever had another DC job & history will repeat itself with Hutzler.

Great breakdown thus far, thanks.

I would not be surprised if this year's defense winds up giving up 50 ppg vs FBS opponents.
Does the SEC have any provision for a running clock in the second half? I think that Lebby needs to be preparing exactly how he can ask for this from opponents and refs while giving up the least amount of pride possible. Also, has an entire team ever "gotten dysentery" during halftime? I hear that some Texas BBQ can cause that...

IIRC, did Cooper's teams at least play with a little bit of energy? I'm much more concerned with the lack of energy/motivation/aggression than scheme.

If they did, it was only until the other team scored. Then they folded like a cheap suit. Never seen anything like.

Also, offenses in 2003 were nowhere near as high octane as they are now. This clown we have now will be historically bad, but it’s gonna be hard to surpass Cooper.

I'm more concerned about he lack of effort our D puts out. You can change schemes and calls, but can't add fight.
Scary thought. What if we didn't have Isaac Smith? I don't know where he is on concussion protocol, but we may not have him Saturday.

Heck no. That team laid down and quit. Other than our home win against Vandy we lost every other SEC game by at least 25 points. In an era where it was hard to lose games by 25 points.

My Alzheimers is so bad, I make Biden look like Elon Musk, about the only thing I remember about Cooper is that grabbing his butt was a coaching signal. I don't remember us just completely laying down on D like we've done this year.

They were poorly coached but then they quit too. We got destroyed every week the second half of the season.

Yea, much of our problems this year are not on Lebby but the ineptitude level of the defense is all on him for hiring Hutzler. He could have hired any number of sitting G5 DCs and chose to hire a guy that had never even been close to being a DC and has no clue what he is doing running a defense.
