I am OK with opt outs, but

I do not believe anyone of them should have the benefit of traveling to the bowl on the university's dime and enjoying a free week when they have no intention of playing. They are no longer on the team. If they have decided to move on, then move on. I mean this sincerely, thank you for playing for PSU and all the best, but the team doesn't need them being a distraction. Th spotlight needs to be on those who are playing and those who remain on the team and might not get to play. It's now their time.

Dotson, Brisker, Brooks and Smith. While Smith hasn’t played well in most people’s opinions are you saying these kids don’t deserve a trip with their teammates? Who has contributed more to this team than Brisker, Dotson and Brooks? My God some of you guys are ridiculous and get so bent out of shape. It’s a game, played by KIDS, for our entertainment.

They are done. What do you not want to undetstand about opt out? They made a choice to leave, so the benefits end. I am not bitter. This is the reality. It needs to work both ways. Agin, I am OK with their decision, but tbshuld not bevrewarded with an "all expenses paid vacation".

Yes all the benefits brought to the university be these kids for 3 or 4 years isn’t worth the $2k of benefits they’ll get?

‘Sorry, Jahan, but because you’ve decided to protect your future, the last 4 years of contributions you’ve made to this university are hereby nullified and you are welcome to sit in your apartment and watch the game like grumpy ‘fans’.’

None of the opt outs arrived on the team plane. Can you be more specific? Dotson was working out near Allentown today.

Time for the fans to opt out. Between the best players not playing and games being cancelled left and right, why travel? Why even watch most of these exhibitions? I'll watch PSU if it's played, not sure about any others.

This looks like a post that should end up on the Message Board Genius Twitter feed. This also looks like a post from someone who has never played a team sport in his life and if he did, he was an overly selfish player. I think if you polled the locker room, those who are playing Saturday understand what Brisker, Dotson, et al are doing and they support them and they'd also still want them alongside as they take on Arkansas.

Actually it's not clear if players who opt out are permitted to travel with the team and participate in pre-game events. This matter never seems to need addressing simply because the opt out players are off somewhere preparing for the combine and NFL draft.

I'll be watching the Penn State game. I'm addicted. If Penn State played the game with third grade girls, I would still watch. I will watch some of the Michigan State game anticipating that they will blow out the pitters. The only reason I will watch is to hopefully see Narduzzi cry and tear his clothes on the sidelines. Other than that I have no interest in any other bowl games and would rather watch "Golden Girls" reruns than the other bowl games.

I think your tighty whities are all waded in a bunch about the wrong people if your concerned about an “all expenses paid vacation”. Bowl games in warm climates are an alluring magnet for blood sucking administrators and other sponges who will be soaking up the Florida Sun on the schools dime. At least those players you’re so concerned about contributed blood and sweat during the season.

They helped the team get to the bowl game. And they will be helping the young players by coaching them up and encouraging them.

Nothing to see here. Move along.
My friend. Fyi...when a player opts out the University does not allow them to participate in any capacity, coaching or otherwise. They are officially not a member of the team.

Look on the bright side, if an opt out player travels the added cost for a team chartered plane and meals is minimal. Maybe there's a hotel charge, but my guess is a fixed block of rooms is reserved regardless of the number of players. Now if you want to argue they may be a distraction to the other players, you may have a point.

I would assume the quitters lose their scholarships? Anybody know if that‘s the case.

Quitters? What are you talking about?

most of the kids opting out have already graduated and competed the fall/winter semester. And now they are preparing for the draft. Why are you so offended at these kids opting out of a game? They don’t ‘owe’ any of us anything.
