this site that has some good info on the proposed project near campus. It appears to be much larger than I previously thought encompassing the old theater, University Inn and the old Burger King location, which is a good thing. I hope this thing actually happens unlike so many other projects we're heard about over the last 4 or 5 years.

property? A pedestrian bridge (boy, MDOT would love that) over 12 would create a good avenue to and from that property during game weekends.

know a lot about what's going on. Do you have a gut feeling about whether 1) the UI will eventually be purchased, and 2) this project will actually happen at least substantially close to what is being proposed.

Hell, I'd be happy if all that crap like the U Inn and the theater were just bulldozed, much less that land be incorporated into this project.

to fund the CC and infrastructure. They should have done that in the 1st place instead of trying to shove a tax increase down our throats. I dont think you will see a hotel right away. It may come later (than the rest). The U Inn will eventually sell and they can then go to work. The CC sounds really great, but people dont realize that 80% of small market CC's hemorage $$$ and are not self sufficient. In other words, the are failures. I for one would rather not have one at all, than have one that fails.

They're planning on taking my free parking at the physical plant. OK, so I'll take one for the team.

I've always been told that BWW won't open in Starkville due to our ignorant no alcohol sales on Sunday rule. Could be ******** though.

for BWW and any other national sports bar-type restaurant out there. I contacted Hooter's HQ back in 2003 for a Marketing Research class project about opening a franchise in Starkville and they went as far as to send me a detailed analysis of the market. Their analysis said the number of pros outweighed the number of cons, but they refused to even consider placing a restaurant in any locale that banned alcohol sales on any day, especially Sunday. They said no number of pros, including a major college clientele, could overcome that lost revenue

It seems to have a main street feel with the theater terminating the street. Parking is pushed to the perimeter, and it will have structured parking, which may be a first for this region.

The downsides, it calls for a convention center, which are usually failures (struggle even in large towns), and because the perimeter is primarily parking and surrounded by big roads, the connectivity with the stuff around it will not be that great, especially for pedestrians and bicyclists. However, this is better than what typically would go here.

would the CM project preclude the University Park development in Lowndes County? Doubt both could be feasible as they are currently proposed, the CM project would have 300,000 sq feet of retail while UP would have close to 1,000,000 (in phases). Aren't they going after the same anchor stores?

Tuscaloosa has a Hooters and there are no sales of alcohol allowed on Sunday in Tuscaloosa.
