As a Jackson native, it's always fun to go watch MSU beat the ever living crap out of some small school right before Christmas. It makes my season brighter! And yes, the Big House sucks, but that's part of the charm.

My play of the game made by someone born in America was by Dee Bost. He stole the ball and then slammed it down on the break. It was awesome!

Riek was entertaining as it was a spectacle in and of itself. I expected Marcus Campbell, I got something a little bit better than Marcus Campbell. I think he can be good in time, but he also looked like he was about to trip over himself half the time. It was hilarious watching him knock out a guy for Centenary with his elbow, hold the ball over his head while the smaller "Gents" tried to get it from him. As I said, MSU's Manute Bol.

Varnado is always fun to watch swatting the ball away at will. Barry Stewart looked better to me- no air balls. Made some shots. Ravern looked good making his shots. Kodi- you can see the talent that he has, and also the piss poor attitude that he has as well. I wish he would just PLAY and do what the coaches ask. Is that really too much to ask? Phil Turner looks like he has regressed to me. I don't know why, but he does. I hope he turns it around. I liked Romero Osby and thought he played well, and kind of picked up the slack for Phil.

was seeing first hand the impact Varnado makes that never hits the box score. He takes away the offense from damn near anywhere inside 15 feet. At least when we're playing ****** teams with borderline inside presence. Now when we hit the conference, his narrow *** will get bodied more, but still ....

Riek was very entertaining, but he should probably schedule some time to visit with Balis in the off season. His legs look like they could snap at any minute. My expectations were extremely low for Riek, so I suppose he lived up to my expectations. I think he has potential, but he needs A LOT of work. On another note, I think Wendall Lewis is going to be a solid basketball player for us for 4 years. I dont see All SEC or the NBA in his future, but he should be a good college basketball player.

With a few comments here and by Veazey and Locke, it sounds like the Big House should be condemned. Are there any plans for a new coliseum in the area?

it's not to the point of us not playing there anymore. I don't think the city of Jackson has put any money into the Coliseum besides the "new" floor a couple of years ago. If they are going to continue to have the rodeo, high school basketball championships, concerts, and 1 MSU basketball game per year, they could stand to renovate the facility a little bit. I've always enjoyed going there and laughing at the place when we play.

get on their knees and pray that local, state and national leadership can intervene to GET THE HELL OUT OF THE CITY OF JACKSON. Someone please develop a plan to locate a new facility in either madison or rankin where at least marginally competent people can be responsible for it. HOW THE F DO YOU PROVIDE ZERO TRAFFIC ASSISTANCE FOR AN EVENT LIKE THIS? Did anybody see the first City of Jackson police officer last night? Anywhere?

It's gone to complete hell.

is that there were only 2 gates open to enter and exit. There are like 10 gates around the coliseum that could be used to get people in and out. Instead, 99% of the attending audience only knows of the main entrance on high street and that causes a traffic jam. It is also ridiculous, as you say, that there were no JPD officers there to direct traffic. Instead, we had to wait on the red light on high street to move the traffic. The incompetence in the "City" of Jackson is at an all-time high.

And yes, the Coliseum should be condemned. Hard to believe but as bad a shape as it was in before, it's deteriorated a good bit in the last few years.

I saw Three Dog Night there in the early 70s, among many other concerts, including the Grateful Dead in '78, and it hasn't changed any on the inside since that time.

1. The shot clock lasted the whole game. Major props.
2. Riek actually didn't look as bad as I thought he would. He was goofy as hell running but he kinda seemed like he knew was he was doing out there. Everyone held their breath when he took that hard fall. Some old man asked, "did he just break in half?" Riek was very entertaining.
3. How many threes did we make? Seemed like 100 or so.
4. I'm glad I'm from Jackson and know the short cut into the Coliseum. Took me all but 8-10 minutes to get from my house in Northeast Jackson to my parking spot. The traffic was horrendous on High Street.
5. It's the 21st century; the Coliseum needs to accept credit cards at all ticket booths. Also, the Will Call line was outrageously long.
6. Great game overall. Wish I would have gotten better seats but I'm not going to complain about a $5 ticket.

Good early Cripmus present. Thanks Dawgs.

What did Kodi do last night that wasn't "what the coaches ask"? In the Stansbury Stand Around Offense, it's obvious that the only shots that he or Varnado, hell touches for that matter, inside 10 feet are going to be on offensive rebound putbacks. There are no screens, no backdoor cuts, just a lot of perimeter passing with the guards putting up shot after shot after shot from 18 feet and out. Why's it different when Augustus puts up a couple? The mantra on this board is that we shoot the outside shot well. So why does one of the big guys get labeled as selfish or going against the coaches for taking an outside shot? If we had an inside game that would be valid, but we don't and our opponents from here on out know that.

The only offensive problem Kodi has is trying to drive the lane like a 2 guard and either getting stripped or committing a charge. However, defensive effort is spotty at best most nights from Mr. Augustus. So much so that my jaw dropped when he dove for a loose ball against Wright State last week. That is what earns Kodi extended bench time.

I did not know Coach34 had a bastard son. If Kodi actually played as well as some of you think he does then he would be in the NBA already.....but he doesn't. He is what he is. Flashes of being good but inconsistent as hell with his effort and prone to making stupid plays.

Get the 17 outta here! Its people like you (complainers) that make Jackson worse than what it is.. JPD is rarely at the fairgrounds. The Sheriff department handles the majority of the events there. And last time I checked the Coliseum is a STATE funded entity not the city of Jackson's.

plans (read: hopes and dreams) only. One quasi-government city entity in particular sees the need for a new arena and has an RFP out for one. They will evaluate the proposals and also pick a spot for the arena. Of course, then they would still have to find the money.

If the proposed Riverwalk ever happens, I'm 99% sure the arena (and a new football stadium) would be nearby. They just had a story on that development, and the plans show both venues:
None of this may ever happen, but it would be cool as ****.

And this guy has even designed one for Jackson, although it looks to me like he's just infatuated with arenas in general so he threw something out there:

Jackson is the capital of this fine state and it needs your support, not let's move it to Madison where you live and send your kids to MRA. I had no problem getting in or out of the Big House, you just need to know the shortcuts and you miss all the traffic.

I attended this game about 3 years in a row. But I refuse to ever attend another event in the Jackson Coliseum.

I'm not a big facilities guy, but the Jackson Coliseum is so dilapidated, it's actually dangerous to sit in the place. And what is with the refusal to trash the 1978 game clocks?

I realize the state of Miss. is #50 in almost everything, but the Jackson Coliseum is just sitting there acting as a huge reminder of that.
