1. He has already retired once, and got a big good bye back then
2. After that "retirement" he took a job at a sister school
3. Guy has no life outside baseball, so there is a pretty good chance he will take a job somewhere else AGAIN after the ceremony this week. Maybe not right away like the next day, but before a year is out.
4. He is leaving the program in worse shape than we he returned, the first time.

You have guys like Bertman saying nice things about Polk....you wonder if in the back of Bertman's mind if he isnt thinking "Didnt we just do this 10 years ago?"

It is. And if I was a school, I would be thinking, we already gave this guy a plaque in 1997.

But the other side of the coin is he is a MSU legend and he probably should be honored in some way. It would be just as weird to have his last game and not do anything.

I don't think he will get back into coaching, but at the same time, it wouldn't shock me either. He's also a little more than 10 years older than he was in 1997.

that you would be hard pressed to find the outrage towards Polk you find on here anywhere else on the planet. So, no, I doubt there are a lot of coaches pissed because Polk is retiring a second time and they have to do the obligatory "farewell" send-off.

Counting down the final games at Alex Box, Polk will be one of the honorary guys who takes down one of the numbers. Only Tiger greats have been asked to do this so far, so I think it's a pretty nice honor for Ron.

much all season long. Old Ron pulled a Jackie Sherill on us the last 7 years. Going to the CWS was the luckiest BS that ever happened on the face of the earth & all the solar system combined.

I still think that winning the SEC Tournament in 2005 was a greater feat of luck simply because that team couldn't pitch, hit, hit for power, was average defensively, and refused to play small ball. It just doesn't add up. I still don't know how the hell we pulled it off. Alan Johnson and Todd Doolittle picked a really good time to pitch to pitch well the same week.

At least last year we had a first round pick at catcher, and maybe a future one at closer, plus Moreland and Rea were pretty good players who were upper classmen.
