that the sources may be the NY Times and ESPN actually convinces me that just don't have any idea what they are talking about.

A staff member of BDJ spoke with AJ in recent days and he still doesn't know his fate. He has yet to talk with the coaches about what is going to happen...that is unless he has talked with Coach Croom in the last couple of days.

Has he been taking classes this summer? If he hasn't taken classes this summer and he dropped out of his classes in the spring, I don't think he'd be eligible academically, even if he wanted to play.

I could see him being able to make up enough credits in the summer to be eligible even though he dropped out of school in the spring. Of course, that would depend on whether he passed enough hours in the fall. Unless he's been doing a lot of schoolwork though, I don't see how it would be possible. I'm guessing that the minute he withdrew from school, he basically suspended himself for a season.

To my understanding, this season was out of the question either way. He was going to redshirt this fall and join the team in January. I believe it really depends on how the grand jury session goes.</p>

for a waiver, as any good UM fan must know.

His rationale of "I was involved in a campus gun fight" may give the NCAA pause, but stranger things have happened. Like giving in to the non-reader up in Oxford.

I think they are waiting to see what actual charges will be given to Brown and Wesley before any final decisions will be made for AJ. Worst case is supposedly sitting out this year as a redshirt and rejoining team next year.

Somehow I think it'd be hard to get the NCAA to allow a player to play that missed school for a gun related incident. Now, if he had some sort of extenuating family circumstances that forced him to miss a semester, I could see them making an exception. My guess is that the best case scenario is that Johnson re-enrolls in school this fall, sits out the season, joins the team in January and is eligible the following fall.

Maybe I'm wrong on this, but I don't see it happening for this fall.

no matter what the NCAA's stance might be. I seriously doubt that the compliance people would go to bat for Johnson. I'd be surprised and disappointed if they did. Of course, my disappointment would only last until his first interception.

I'd say that's probably the best case scenario. Worst case is he's done for good.

Amen. So you understand how we feel about the non-reading fellow. When it comes to winning games, I don't care that much about the off field stuff.
