this has become a Raffo vs Cohen vs. Polk series and the players have been left out. Oh well....

Next year will be fun with Cohen back at MSU! There are a few players on this team that can play.

Polk has clearly demonstrated which he considers more important- MSU or Ron Polk's agenda.

If it were Raffo, he wouldn't have left cutting players to his favorite assitant.
If it were the University, he would have resigned when he was no longer at the top of his game.
If it were the players, he would have likewise resigned.

I'm telling you I think he is crazy and is obsessed with his NCAA agenda to the point where he can't really think of anything else.

.....representatives of MSU baseball. I enjoyed watching both of them when they were players. This shouldn't be personal, but it should be about who's the best qualified coach to take over a tradition-rich program that for the most part hasn't been performing up to expectations for probably a decade now.

In sports and in life (although life is quickly becoming something different), the best man should win. The only moral choice is that you compete and win on merit. There is no other morally right choice.

Therefore, Polk should not have skewed the process of choosing a new coach so much, especially when it has nothing to do with him. If he picks Raffo and Raffo fails, no skin off his nose. He helped a buddy and is still regarded as a legend.

Byrne is the one that should be pissed. Raffo should also.

What Polk did was hamstring a new AD and force him to alienate a part of the fan base in matter his decision. He aslso undermined his credibility.

He treated Raffo horribly as well. He has now set him up to where most of the fan base, including me, are openly hoping he does not get hired. Polk's actions have created a backlash agaisnt Raffo. Let's say we hire Raffo now. What then? He gets to start with most of the fanbase resenting him. So, thanks to his coach, and mentor, he gets to start his head coaching experience at teh school he loves and gave so much to, with most of the fanbase hating that he got the job and the AD feeling like he was forced to hire him. He would have a very short leash.

If I were Raffo, I would pull my name from contention.

Byrne will come out smelling like a rose. He has no choice. He will not stake his career on Polk's out of control ego. In fact he will lookk better than he should because he will go against Polk for the betterment of the school.

Or does he pick family friends, or try to help out peole he likes?

but Raffo is basically in an all or nothing situation. He is either going to be the HC, or he's not and if he is, as you say there will be a lot of resentment. If Raffo is the new coach, he will have to win the fans over, and that's going to be REAL hard.

Of course, if we hire someone else, then Raffo and the staff will probably be gone anyway, so this is really the only way that they would get to stay.
