I hope Croom doesn't go to a bowl this year and then jump ship.....

Croom's decision to leave or not to leave is like a woman trying to decide which child to keep and which child to kill at a concentration camp?

That has to be the worst post ever.

I think MState will be pretty good in 2009, but I'm skeptical about a winning season this year.

Yea I've been folowing this site for about half a year now, and I gotta say that the pessimism is funny sometimes and can be very well warranted but sometimes its like people say pessimistic **** just so they wont be attacked for being optimistic. Yea we're State and we arent always a stellar athletic school but at the same time being pessimistic all the time takes the joy out of being a sportsfan. Just my 2 cents.

For the longest time you have always been negative about everything, and just plain screwed up acting with your psycho avatars.
So here is one more for you...Dear ole Debbie downer.

Are you f'ing kidding me??? I'm the one poster on here who is picked out as negative debbie downer?? That is insane! This is the most negative group of fans on the internet. The F'ing motto for the site is "Abandon all hope ye who cheer for the maroon and white"!!!! And I'm singled out as Debbie Downer?? I started off last year being called a Swan Lake sheep with my wooly predictions of beating LSU in our season opener last year. I have just been along SPS long enough to know that if you are positive then you get called a sheep, so when in Rome.... If you don't get my sentiment about being positive about an upcoming season and then having your hopes dashed then you obviously have no idea what it means to be a state fan. Why don't you go shove your head up your *** and say hello to all your swan friends stuck up there????

Well then call me a moron, but for the love of all that's good and kind in the world don't call me out for being negative on the SPS, that's ridiculous.

So you have to be negative because the pack is known to be overly negative?
Grow a spine you *****, or drink some cyanide-flavored kool-aid cause the cool kids told you to.

First rule anyone who posts on the pack should learn..
don't try to impress anyone..just be your damn self.
Obviously, if your demeanor is that you have to be overly negative..cause "that's what the pack says to do"
then you don't understand this site.
I love this site because it allows you to be truthful... if you want to be woolly, or EXTREME negative or a mix off both..you are allowed to do it.
but you better stick to your guns on your opinion...and back up what you say when questioned..and truly believe it.
Coughing out and saying.. oh well that's the cool thing to do cause that's what the pack expects is just crap.
Grow a pair already....

Croom has worked incredibly hard to get us here. With another bowl game and the level of talent he's got coming in for 2009 and presumably 2010, I'd think he'd want to enjoy the success earned through the utter hell of all the losing, criticism, and very hard work he's put in.

I think it would take more than just a bowl game for him to get the kind of offers that would give him any reason to leave. Look at Rich Brooks for example. He inherited a very similar situation at Kentucky. He had poor seasons for 3 years, then followed it up with back to back mid-level bowl games, yet he really didn't receive much attention for any job openings.

In my opinion, Croom would have to take you to a West title, and possibly an SEC title this year to get significant attention for any major job openings.

How's how I want Croom to go out- realsitic or not. I want him to continue to make progress and turn us into a solid SEC team, and then get hired away by an NFL team. That way, he leaves without us firing him, and he leaves as a winner. Also, whoever we hire to replace him would be walking into a pretty good situation and could hopefully build on what Croom did.

it will be because we are doing really well. I mean 9 wins or better. If that happens so be it. That's better than firing him after 2 more crappy seasons.

for a suck *** season so we can just cling to hope instead reveling in moving forward... in fact, I think I'll dump my new hot girlfriend for the ugly one I said goodbye to because it's less of a challenge.... screw my new higher paying job too... there's too much uncertainty that goes along with it... give me ugly women, minimum wage and a football team that can't beat Maine...

So, a coach in the SEC would go where? Now, there are some better jobs out there than MSU, I'm not that stupid, but there aren't a ton that go head and shoulders over a SEC program. Let's also not forget that there is a reason that in the 21st century Croom became the first African-American head coach in the SEC. It's not like a big switch was flipped and all of a sudden black is the new black in the South. I figure that about half of the SEC programs simply would not hire a AA coach at this time. The ones that would are jobs that would be considered on par with MSU.

Now, looking at high profile, national level jobs they aren't exactly out looking for a power run leaning West Coast offense loving head coach. Let's face facts, we can win 6 to 8 games a year this way and with better talent maybe a few more. But I haven't seen a lot of the WCO in BCS games lately (unless one of the charity case schools like Hawaii was running it, I didn't pay much attention to them).

This is not to discount what other folks said about Croom wanting to stay. I think he is building something here and wants to stay. I also don't think he is the kind of guy that will chase the money or the fame (*cough* Bobby Petrino *cough*). After talking to him I truly think that Croom likes his life in Starkville. My only worry would be if, in a very unlikely circumstance, Bama came calling. I know all about the contract and I also know contracts are notoriously BS. Croom is a Bama boy the way most of us are MSU boys. When momma calls you home it's a hard thing to turn down. Personally, I don't think he would go but you never know.

I don't think you have to worry about Bama calling for 2 reasons:
1) They have Nick Saban. I don't think they'll be firing him anytime soon, and I don't think he'll be receiving a better gig anytime soon. He's already done the NFL thing and didn't like it, so I think he'll be at Bama for as long as they'll have him, which will be a little while.
2) They already had him as a finalist before and chose Mike Shula over him. They were not happy with Shula, and the arrogant Bama fanbase would not allow for the AD to go back and basically admit they were wrong by hiring a guy they had a shot to hire a while back.

The Bama job will not be open for a while, and if it does come open, I really think they'd be too arrogant to go after him, and honestly I don't think he'll prove to have enough success nationally to interest them. As they showed with the Saban hire, they are not going to go out and just try to make a good hire from now on. They're only going to make a hire if they think it'll make a splash nationally. I don't know if I ever see Croom being that type of coach. Most of the coaches that become those type of commodities are either great national recruiters or have very innovative systems. Croom hasn't shown either of those yet. It doesn't mean he can't win or win big. It just means that I don't think he'll ever be the type of coaching hire that would be good enough to truly excite a fanbase like a Nick Saban or Urban Meyer hire did.

A good comparison would be Cutcliffe. He had success at Ole Miss, but his biggest attention for another job came from Kentucky. That's because he wasn't known as a national recruiter, and he wasn't known for being innovative or for being charismatic. Croom fits that same mold. He's going to have to win by recruiting in state, and he's going to do it in an old school style. That's just not going to draw the attention from outside programs, unless he starts leading you to multiple SEC titles, and I really don't see that.

In my opinion, I think the only job offers he could potentially receive that might be able to lure him away would be if an NFL team decided to take a chance on him, and that would take a pretty good amount of success.

OK, Mr. Hall Monitor, thank you for explaining the rules to me. Now go <17> yourself in your mangina.

And edited to add: What's creepier for someone to display to represent themselves in an avatar, a picture of a hero from a bad *** graphic novel or a borderline pedophilic picture of a kid playing with a bathtoy?
