I promise I will be more positive in 2025

My bitterness is sinful and I am always pissed off about something. We have room for improvement, but there are Power 4 schools with higher profiles that would change places with us in a heartbeat. Men's basketball is rocking. We are a top 10 team and it will be official within a couple weeks of SEC season starting. We have a good chance of starting 3-0 in the SEC with two home games and a tough but winnable game at Memorial.

Hopefully we can finish strong and fill some needs in the portal.

The SOSD middle school being on MSU's campus is a game changer. Hopefully that continues to flourish and the high school improves so we can attract top level faculty with young families.

There's a ton of things at MSU we COULD be positive about. The fact that we overcome so much with our natural disadvantages is nothing short of miraculous, and we should celebrate that. But what is tough to handle, is just intentional ignorance and small-minded thinking, and we have way too much of that when it comes to our football program, and honestly, it sneaks into other things too.

For example........we finally win a national title in baseball, and we were so up in our feelz that we scrap a 25-year old consistent logo that everybody knows, for a logo that was on one of our baseball jersey. That is the definition of small-minded thinking.

If we could fix this......and get rid of this whole 'compare to Ole Miss' mentality that we have for football.......I think we could be fine. With rev-sharing coming, I do think we can compete. But we need an (a few) adult in the room in our athletic department. That's number one.

I'm genuinely curious which ones specifically?
Florida State, Wake Forest, Virginia, Oklahoma State, UCF, Arizona, Utah, Houston, Cincy, Kansas, North Carolina, California, Stanford, Purdue, Maryland, Northwestern, Wisconsin, UCLA, Michigan State, Kentucky and Auburn also had losing football seasons.

Of those 19 schools, four have a higher NET than Mississippi State in basketball right now (Auburn, Kansas, Maryland and Houston).

Of the 17 remaining, an additional four have a higher NET than Mississippi State in women's basketball (Michigan State, UCLA, North Carolina, Florida State)

Only Oklahoma State, Virginia, Florida State, Kentucky and UNC (three additional) are coming off a better baseball season than Mississippi State.

and only Wisconsin and Florida State (1 additional) had a better football recruiting class than Mississippi State.

That leaves 11 Power 4 programs in worse shape than Mississippi State in all of the four major sports

Wake Forest
UCF
Arizona
Utah
Cincy
Kansas
Cal
Stanford
Purdue
Northwestern
UCLA

Stanford, Northwestern, and Cal would rather trade places with Mississippi State right now he says... I appreciate your newfound positivity 615, but you may have overcorrected.***

I promise nobody on this board is upset that you’re negative. It’s gotten to the point where being positive about State Football and the administration here feels unnatural and weird.

Spot-on analysis for the Big 4 sports. Based on the end of the OP about middle schools, I thought you were talking about P4 schools in totality - academics/athletics/etc.

Based on that metric, I'd take off everyone but Wake, UCF, and Cincinnati just based on their membership in the AAU. Acknowledging flaws you and others have pointed out about US News rankings, here's where we stand there in national University rankings;

Wake Forest: 46
UCF: 121
Cincy: 152
Miss State: 214

Define "trade places with us". As in, conferences? As in, overall money/revenue? As in, history and program potential?

For starters, no team in the SEC/B1G would trade any type of place with us, as being a P2 program is our main drawing card and they already have that. Not happening, in any universe. Auburn? LOL. Kentucky? LOL. Purdue or Northwestern? Doubtful. UCLA? LOLOL.

I laughed when I saw Stanford mentioned too.

I used to work there for a time. Family was there much longer.

Stanford wouldn’t want to swap at all.

Yeah, the cost of living is MUCH better in Mississippi— the stories I’ve heard about how difficult it is to recruit faculty to Stanford because real estate prices in Palo Alto and nearby cities make Oxford prices seem like Noxapater’s…

Considering the population density and economic sectors, it’s much easier to recruit smart people to Stanford than it is MSU…

I’m a little surprised Wake isn’t an AAU member.

Their academics are strong.

You have to be negative to fit in on SPS. I’ve decided to not join that crowd. So 615 I’m partially with you.

Something that we should be proud about is Mississippi State is one of the national leaders in special education programs helping teachers to be equipped to teach children with special needs and autism.
I'm confused. How does that help us with recruiting in football, men's basketball, or baseball recruiting?**

Eh. It’s not negativity on my part.

I’m simply willing to say that the Emperor has no clothes if that’s what I see.

Something that we should be proud about is Mississippi State is one of the national leaders in special education programs helping teachers to be equipped to teach children with special needs and autism.

That’s good but it’d also be nice if more neurotypical Mississippians were educated about it.

It’s been my experience that Mississippians are generally even more ignorant than they usually are when it comes to special needs and ASD. Their We-Must-All-Process-The-Same Bovine Scatology is a 17ing PITN.

So I’m not expecting any improvement from Mississippians about it in my lifetime.

Drove by today and spotted “Partnership Middle School” on the north side of campus not far from Pork Palace. Beautiful building.

You know what, 17 it. I’m with you @615dawg. I’ve been as negative as anybody this year and honestly I’m tired of it, even if I don’t exactly believe in our leadership. More of a frustration thing than anything else, but hey not everybody thinks like me.

Get it done, Jethro Lebby. Make me look stupid. If I can’t say anything nice, I won’t say, blah blah, y’all know how it goes. Just play it out.
