that there is a significant chance that in 3 years we will be looking back on this season and talking about how great it was, how those were the days, how great winning again felt, and how much we CONTINUE to hate our offense because nothing will have changed at that time.

jeez....sometimes i think i hate state as much as i love it.

since 1970. It has really not been easy, The thing is, if we think we have hope, they'll show, otherwise, its about 30,000. We have learned that we can win, and it feels good. But sometimes it seems like we are mentally ill to keep on. Yes, we do have good loyal fans.

We had a few moments of ecstasy in the stands. Otherwise, it stunk. At no point did I feel like we had a decent team.

Parts of it were fantastic, but huge chunks of it were excruciating.

........was enjoyabkle in the sense that we finally had a winning record and went to a bowl game, but at the same time it was painful because of how ugly we won games.

Now before anyone bashes me for that, I'll tell you right now that I'll glady accept more seasons like 2007 than the 6 seasons we had prior to that. I'm not crazy. BUT, at the same time I felt(and still do) that we cannot and will not "sustain" any success by winning games like we did in 2007. It was a good year, but not one that left me and I'm sure a lot of other fans with the impression that it would continue. It felt like a shot in the dark to me, especially knowing that Croom kept McCorvey and even gave the man a raise. It signaled to me that our offense would continue to suck. What games we do win next season, I'm almost positive they'll be more ugly, boring wins. I'll gladly take it if we can sneak out 6 or more like that again, but I doubt it. I think it'll take a more exciting offensive football team to continue our success.

Now, enough doom and glom. Long summer ahead, and I'm not going to keep harping on this like I have in the past. What will be will be.

Our biggest recent problem was the coaching staff. Sure we had four straight years of four wins or less but that beats six straight years of three wins or less.

You have to enjoy the winning when it comes and not worry about the other stuff. Last football season I just enjoyed winning and getting to a bowl game. I didn't really care that our offense was putting up poor numbers, we were winning and you never know when that dark cloud will pop up over the horizon. Most of the time we end our athletic seasons with a loss.

If a State fan didn't enjoy last football season then all I can say is that is sad.

Thats exactly how I feel as a State fan. We won 8 ballgames last year and I would be thrilled with that every year. Yes our offense is a complete joke but we found ways to win ballgames and thats all that matters.

Felker was actually the one calling the majority of the plays in that game..

Not even Nutt can come right in and create depth.

is the coach won't need a learning curve like Croom did. I still think you're SEMI in the same spot MSU was in going into the 2004 season. Big name recruits, but no one behind them. What RBs do you have that can play? Eason won't be anything special. I'll just have to see you play before I say one way or the other. Nutt is so damn unpredictable.

As for RBs, we have Eason like you said. Apparently he's been doing well in scrimmages. Past him, we don't have a whole lot, though Dexter McCluster is getting a lot of action in the Wildcat formations as a QB and has broken quite a few long runs in scrimmages from that formation. And of course we're going to give guys like Enrique Davis, Brandon Bolden, and Devin Thomas a shot at RB.

We had Jeremy McGee back at RB as well, but they've moved he and Marshay Green to CB at least temporarily to see if they can help us out more there.

We're going to be ok at RB. Nothing special, but we'll have guys that can get it done well enough.

DL and WR should be our strengths, both with depth and talent. OL, RB, CB, and LB are pretty solid on the first team with a few question marks on the 2nd team. And of course Billy Tapp is our back up QB, so Snead better perform and also not get hurt. In a time when all you need is 6 wins to get to a bowl game, we should be good enough to do that as long as we keep our QB healthy.

he was a top recruit, he's just been behind BJGE. He at least has more speed though. Enrique should be able to step right in and play, and McCluster is getting reps at RB, also Derrick Davis and the transfer from UCLA, if he's not playing corner. Nutt thinks RB will be ok.

It's a little harder than that. You have to have a name nowadays like Alabama. Didn't Carolina get left out with 6 wins? I'd say the minimum to be guaranteed is 7 wins.

Orgeron was not the entire problem. The talent and depth wasn't there either.

at this record. I think they will win 5 games at least. Nutt will make a difference on gameday.

Carolina did get left out with 6 wins, and 6 wins isn't a guarantee. My point was that 6 wins isn't that big of an accomplishment in a 12 game schedule. You just have to be mediocre to get to 6 wins. I think with some decent coaching we can be mediocre. We have depth issues at some positions, but if we can keep the QB healthy, we should be able to be mediocre. That's all I'm saying.

The SEC has 8 bowl tie ins. If you win 6 games, you'll be in unless for some reason more than 8 teams win 6 games. And if the SEC gets two BCS bids, which will happen more often with 5 BCS bowls, then there would have to be 10 teams in the SEC with 6 wins or more for someone with 6 wins to get left out. That happened last year, but that's going to be rare, as I think that was the first time it has ever happened since the league expanded to 12 teams. 7 wins is a guarantee, but most years if you go 6-6 in the SEC you will go to a bowl game.

As I said, if Snead is at least serviceable, and if he stays healthy, I see no reason we shouldn't win 6 games next year, whether that means a bowl game or not. You're right that we still have some issues, but I don't think we're anywhere near where your team was in 2004 like you said. Your 2003 team was 2-10, 1-7 in the SEC. You beat Vandy by 9 that year, and your next closest SEC game was a 25 point loss at Kentucky. Your 6 other SEC games were all 30+ point losses. Our team this past year wasn't nearly that bad this past year.
