I see everyone's popular picks for the next baseball coach, but

what about Jim Case? He has done a respectable job at Jacksonville State and he has been in the "program" before.

we are bigger than raffo, or case. We should be looking at top coaches that are proven from across the nation. All they can do is say no.

He was horrible when he was here. I was happy when he left.

Plus, we can probably do better than Case.

is, if we hire raffo or any other polk pupil, polk is going to be a leach around the locker room and practice field for years to come. he's going to keep a close eye on HIS team and make sure the new coach is doing it right.

i'd just like to see a plan from raffo, if he even has one. what does he intend to do differently? what does he plan to do the same?

He would be worth it for the entertainment value alone.

Plus, you know he won't take **** off Polk.

I'd play for that guy.....

P.S. In a perfect world, I could see y'all pulling a coach from the West Coast. I bet they'd like to be a part of games where fans actually show up.

from when Pat McMahon was our coach?

If Polk causes problems, Byrne needs to let him know this is not his team anymore.

macmahon just happened to be a decent coach...not great, though. plus, that was 10 years ago before polk went into cruise control.

i'm just concerend that a younger guy like raffo won't be bold enough to take the bull by the horns, tell polk to back off, and do it his own way. this it if his own way happens to be different than polk's.

...and your post made me think of something else. At Mississippi State these days, nothing is a given, but I would throw out there that we are heading in one of two directions with Byrne:

1) Byrne cows down to Polk and hires Raffo, thereby losing the respect of many MSU fans

or

2) Byrne hires somebody besides Raffo. If this happens, there will be a confrontation between Byrne and Polk on some level at some point.

So, Byrne either alienates a large segment of the MSU fanbase and further cripples the program, or Byrne alienates Polk from MSU baseball.

Still excited about this cluster17, Greg?

today's issue. Believe it or not. If I recall, Didn't Mac want to move back closer to family in Jacksonville? If so, why would he even entertain thoughts of coming back for a second time? Just sayin.....

If I was an AD, I would MUCH rather have the FANS happy than one old fart. That's a no brainer. Hmmmm....have all these thousands of alumni pissed off at me all year, or this one old guy who is borderline senile.

I mean, all Byrne has to do is tell Polk that if he still wanted to run the baseball team, he shouldn't have retired. Yeah, he would get fired, but still if you retire you don't call the shots. That doesn't happen anywhere. Do you see UCLA cower down to John Wooden, who has done far more winning than Polk, and I would venture to guess that UCLA does some things that Wooden doesn't like or wouldn't do, but UCLA doesn't care. Heck, even Bear Bryant would have let Ray Perkins run the show had he not died in the offseason.

Another thing- MOST baseball coaches wouldn't give a **** about what the ex-baseball coach thought. Polk can sit in his luxury box and criticize, or he can just not come. That's up to him. I could care less what he does. If Polk runs off and alienates himself because he doesn't like the coach, that's his loss. He will be back because his only family is his croonies who stroke his ego, and now they can do it in his skybox.

No AD with a brain is going to let some has been coach run an entire team like that. I think Byrne probably has a brain.

What a great way to replace one re-coach, with another re-coach.

I think Mac burned his bridge when he left, right or wrong.
