It just doesn't make any logical sense to me. I hear the arguments and still I think it's horse ****. Sixty players were drafted tonight based on talent, athleticism, character (perhaps), and upside. I'm supposed to believe that those sixty players drafted tonight are better than Jamont Gordon in total value, considering all facets of the game, but no way I'm buying that.
I really feel like Jamont has the tools to thrive at the next level. He'd be up against man to man defenses, and I can't think of many pro defenders that could stop him one-on-one. Jamont has an eye for making a good pass, and hits the boards hard. On a pro team rich in talent, Jamont becomes less of a liability because he is relied upon to do less. To me, that's his only weakness. He tried to do too much, sometimes because he had to, and it took a toll on his consistency. Forced shots.. got too aggressive.. whatever. Bottom line: his weaknesses wouldn't be as heavily exploited in the NBA. He strengths, however, would be nearly as unique in the league as they were in the SEC. There aren't many guys like him.. period.
And granted, I'm just ranting and frustrated, but don't reply to this with, "...and that's why they're paid to draft guys and you're not.." Plenty of horrible decisions are made each year in the NBA. Many of them happened tonight. Someone getting paid by an NBA franchise thinks a guy averaging 8 points a game in Turkey has more business being in the NBA over Jamont Gordon. Well, <17> you man. This is bad for Jamont, and probably bad for Mississippi State. He deserves to be in the league.
What the hell were some of these teams thinking?
