Yes, Gordon did create some open shot opportunities for these players when he would drive and their player would slack off, but if Bost or whoever plays PG for us next year can penetrate the same shots will be open. And although he improved, there were many times these guys were open on the wing that Gordon never saw them, so a PG with better vision would cancel this out.
Then you have to take into account the design of the offense which was centered around Gordon penetrating from the top of the key and getting it inside to Rhodes which meant that Ben and Barry stood around a lot. There are plenty of players similar to them that put up their same kinds of stats just with different offenses.
Overall we'll be worse without Gordon but most of it has to do with losing his ability to pentrate, finish, defend and rebound and not so much b/c of how he made his teamates better. Hans/Stewart are complementary players that would average about the same stats in a number of offenses and might even improve in some offenses that ran their guards of picks and stuff designed to get them open shots. Something we didn't do a bunch of the past few years.</p>
