got me running mental math on how long mine has left...

I have a border collie mix who is pushing 18, the vet marvels at how healthy he is. In fact, I just learned a dog can age out of certain vaccines such as the bordetella one.

I've had a lot of dogs over the years, and I remember every. single. one.

Lost my 12.5 year old Border Collie/Lab mix a month ago yesterday and my 12.5 year Border Collie 3 weeks ago today. Been going through a tough time. I got hit hard twice within a week and a day.

I too can relate. Last Summer I had to put down my 13 y/o black lab. Bleeding internally from a tumor near his heart. I knew a problem wasn't too far off just based on his age. But it's all part of it unfortunately. Got a 8 month old yellow lab now. He's a good one too.......

Had to put 4 down in succession a year apart almost to the day. The last in the spring of 2020. Needless to say, an excruciating and emotional decision answering the question, is it time?

BTW, is there anybody that doesn't like SVP?

Me too, I grew up with dogs and have had them since I got married. It has taken me months to get over the loss of every one. Our creator didn't design us to die so we don't understnad when it happens.

My wife had a Pomeranian and we bonded pretty quickly. Slept next to me all night and was my work buddy. One night he had to go outside to use the bathroom and a coyote got him. Had to pickup the pieces of him. That was in 2016 and still not over it.

Damn, that's tough. I had a Retriever mix with Cushing's Syndrome that caught up to him pretty quick. I had always wanted him to die in my house so I'd know his spirit was still around, but I couldn't watch him suffer. He couldn't walk or anything, he'd just lay there while we fed him water with a syringe. Anyway I couldn't take it any longer and decided to take him to the vet and end his suffering. He weighed 130 pounds so it took me and my sister to get him to the back seat of my car. No sooner than we laid him down he died right there on my back seat. I was so glad he died somewhere familiar.

Had to put my 12yr old English bulldog down in March. I’m not an emotional person at all, but that absolutely wrecked me.

There's a classical painting that I saw once, and I haven't been able to find it again, but it shows a depiction of God separating man from animal with a dog leaping the chasm to be with man. Strong stuff.
