If authentic, looks like Utah gets more seats than Penn State

It’s always the case that the PAC12 gets more seats. Been that way forever.

As with the vast majority of Bowl Games, it's not like there is heavy demand (anyone who wants tickets will have no problem getting them)

I would expect the demand side from PSU fans will be fairly reasonable - not having been to the RB for a while. The Utah folks probably went crazy last year (first RB for them ever, I think. Or at least in a long time). This year, with back-to-back RBs, will certainly be a far more muted demand on their part.

It would be shocking if there are not scads of tickets available for the cost of a hot dog and a beer come gameday. The "lesser" bowls? They can't give them away.
Such is the nature of Bowl Games in the current era. Hell, even the players often don't want to go. :)

I wonder why they they stuck one PSU section and the half section on non-participating Big Ten in the middle of the Utah allotment. Maybe it's looks better on television that way.

Utah is the home team.
Doesn't matter.

Last year OSU was the "home" team - and got an allotment of just 20,000 (they only sold around 13,000, and returned the rest... thus the reason no one, including OSU or the Rose Bowl Committee, was interested in having OSU back this year)
Utah was originally allotted around 30,000 - sold them out - and got more. It was their first Rose Bowl, ever - and they are relatively close geographically.
Even with Utah showing great demand, there were thousands of unsold tickets.

The Rose Bowl allots tickets based on what they think will sell, which only makes sense, of course.

The fact that the allotments this year are relatively even is a reflection of A) Expectations that PSU fans will travel relatively well, and B) Utah fans - while likely selling fairly well - will not be nearly as excited for the game as last year.

Considering it’s less travel for PAC12 teams it’s not surprising they are also the home team

They alternate (though now, with some years being NOT P12 vs B10 - due to the CFP/NY6 bit - it gets clustered)

PSU was the "home" team last time they were there, FWIW.

Utah is ranked higer that is why there the home team, just like PSU was in home blues and the home team vs USC in the last Rose Bowl PSU played in.

The Rose Bowl Game has traditionally annually alternated home/away status when it was strictly the Big Ten vs. the PAC. Consider the 1995 game when we were undefeated, ranked higher than Oregon, but still wore our road uniforms. I believe the alternating still applies to B1G vs. PAC but it may be different when a team from another conference plays.

Those are there in case any of our favorite board trolls attend. It makes them feel comfortable.

Has nothing to do with "rankings", FWIW
