You also have people like Pepperdine, Oregon State, Oklahoma, Georgia (yes, seriously), and Missouri that have one.
But you also have people like MSU, Florida State, and Clemson that don't.
I really think that the keys for us to win one are:
1. To go more consistently. Polk would typically would build a team that was capable of making it once every five years, but if you do that you have a team that is inexperienced as far as the CWS goes. I think experience is the most important advantage you can have in a tournament like the CWS. It's not essential- obviously look at this year's CWS Champ- but at the same time, teams that have CWS experience have a much better chance of winning it throughout history. Even our great 1985 team had players that had only been to Omaha that one time. If we had not choked in the Regionals in 1984, who knows?
2. We must recruit better. We need a combination of blue chip talent- especially pitching and then we need to have two or three guys that are blue collar, dreamed of playing baseball at MSU all their life guys. We must go outside of the south and really make some in roads in California, Texas, and Florida and then we need to protect our territory as well- Mississippi and try to get a player or two from Memphis and Louisiana. If we can find some blue chips in other places, like Missouri, then by all means we should go get them. All of our walk-ons should come from Mississippi, which I don't feel is ludicrous to say with the new rules in place.
3. A coaching staff that is commited to winning. Check. That really felt good to type.
