Thanks for the insights CV. FWIW, as you mentioned "... As for the contributions, it's not a good place to contribute funds Barry... ", I think that is a reasonable take. My thoughts were perhaps more directed to the idea of directly supporting the Athletes - rather than sending the $$$ into PSU Bureaucracy (that is, alas, certainly requiring of more effort on the part of the donor)The disability athlete's situation is a train wreck. There are tens of thousands of dollars that have been donated to that program that have been sitting for years since Terri Jordan retired and the university did nothing. One of the largest contributor is a good friend and I have helped him reach out in the university. But they have gotten little traction. They finally went to the paper to get it public. When the paper called about the issue, the university finally posted a part time coaches job in recreation, not ICA. So we now have world class ability athletes at PSU that have or will need to go elsewhere at PSU no longer has a program.
As for the contributions, it's not a good place to contribute funds Barry. The money that's been sitting there for years in not in use for the intended purpose. The university refused to give any information as to how it was going to be spent. It's quite a messy situation. If you want to know more, let me know and I can connect you with one of the parties. This is an embarrassing situation that started under Sandy but has not really been resolved.
They are moving the program out of ICA into recreation which is not under ICA and Pat. Who knows what will happen to it in the future. Thanks for posting this article. I think it was behind a paywall the first time I tried to read it. PSU's stance on this in infuriating after all the work Teri Jordan did to make this program successful. How can you let a program with an endowment crumble to pieces like that? Is it just that the people in charge just don't know how to manage the department so they just ignore things? Definitely a shiiteshow. Hopefully the new AD is more competent then the old AD.
Was thinking new AD would keep it in ICA where it belongs. They are moving the program out of ICA into recreation which is not under ICA and Pat. Who knows what will happen to it in the future.
