thing I can't stand in baseball, it's when we let guys have free passes (HBP, BB) and let them score to beat you. We have GOT to get some pitchers. If there is one legit complaint that I have about our current program, it is the pitching. It has been all year. We have completely piece milled this staff together throughout the year. There is not one single person, other than maybe Reed, that scares me (as an opposing batter). With our park being a pitchers friendly park, I would think we could have at least 1 solid ace by now. It's mind blowing.

....and have gotten slammed for it. They are not being developed. We do have a lack oftalent, and we are young. We were terrible last year, and as a staff we are more competitive. Some of that, I'd wager a lot of that, is the new bats, and many of the fly balls we are getting would've been out of the yard the year before.

Reed has legitimately improved. He and Routt are the only two.

Stratton - Worse. Don't care what his numbers say. He can't get past the 4th inning. Walks way too many, makes way too many mistake pitches. Regressed.
Jones - Regressed. Again, his ERA may be slightly better due to the bats, but we needed him to step up and be a reliable SEC arm and he was nowhere close to that.
Routt - Has been fairly solid. Should've pitched for us last year, had his arm not been destroyed by our coach. Still not a great arm, but at least he is helping the team.
Pollorena - Solid early and in midseason, has looked terrible late. He's only been on the team a year, and has regressed as the year has gone on.
Mitchell - Has been up and down. Is doing well right now.
Statz - Young player, not very impressive. Hasn't really improved throughout the year.
Busby - Worth nothing.
Diaz - Nothing.
Stark - Impressive for a freshman, we'll have to see if he develops.

Who am I missing? The point is, we are not developing our pitchers. Our veteran guys should've been Stratton, Jones, and Reed. One of them pans out and he is a reliever. Two projected weekend starters fell flat on their face and that is inexcusable. As of right now, we've seen freshman flahses from Pollorena, Mitchell, and Stark. What will they do next year?

This is very much like qb's under Jackie.

..paying attention to what you have been saying all year, & frankly don't care.

I'm aiming this @ Rambis & the other idiot (hatfield or something) that shows up after a win & dresses everybody down for using a sports messageboard in the method it is meant to be used.

The people I was talking about were the ones that cry after every single loss like they expect us to go undefeated, as well as some of the other stupid **** some of you get mad about. Not to mention the ones who claimed that this team was no better than Polk's last year, and some that didn't see much improvement over the last few years. Yes those people are idiots.

I do think it is funny that we have a young *** pitching staff, yet they just suck and won't get better.

Just an idea and I might be wrong but I doubt it. I'm sorry that they can't bat 1.000 with runners in scoring position.

We are much better this year but let's be honest here.....we lost to jackson state last year. This is the first time we have seen any improvement.

We have a winning record this year because of our pitching staff. Period.<div>
</div><div>I get it. You hate Butch Thompson. Yet the guy is recruiting studs, our pitching is improving, thus our win total has improved. </div><div>
</div><div>The ONLY pitcher anyone can complain about is Stratton.</div><div>
</div><div>Jones has improved, not regressed, even with his attitude. Reed and Routt have improved. Pollorena came out of nowhere. Mitchell, Norris and Stark will be All-SEC players by the time they are juniors. Statz and Girodo have contributed solid outings. Diaz was a project from the beginning.</div><div>
</div><div>You just really don't have a point. Maholm's, Donovan's, Ginter's and Dubose's don't come in as freshmen and dominate (I assume you know who these guys are - with your knowledge of past MSU pitching development, that may be a stretch on my part). If Stratton sucks again next year, you may have a point. Wait until they are upperclassmen.</div><div>

I am just saying that prior to this season there was not even a trace of improvement from Polk. Most of that is due to what Cohen was left to work with.
Going 6-24 and losing to Jackson state did not scream improvement last year.

we do need to get some starting pitchers that can go deep. We have a decent bullpen. Maybe that's odd to say on a day when our starter went five+ and our bullpen blew the lead, but it's true in general.

But, I do think our pitching is getting better in general

I did some research the other day, and I found out that this year our team ERA was the second lowest we've had since 2005. Also, this year was the first time we've had a pitcher make the All-SEC team since Paul Maholm in 2003.

So, this is an issue that has been ongoing for a long time, and it's just now starting to get corrected. I've said all year that we lacked depth on our pitching staff- it should be a lot better next year. We will have a lot of juniors and a couple of seniors such as Caleb Reed and Nick Routt. I think guys like Evan Mitchell and Daryl Norris will take a big step forward as well, and then we'll see how the freshmen contribute.

change in bats. I don't see a great improvement in pitching compared to last year, it could be considered slight at best considering that most teams across the country are also showing "improvement" compared to he previous season due to the bat change. They make a HUGE difference and must be considered in this argument. I do agree that Cohen did a hell of a good job this season and has our program heading in the right direction. I am not sold on our Butch Thompson yet, but he is working with a shortdeck of talent. Overall, I am just really pleased with getting to Hoover and hopefully a regional(that should be a given, but as a lifelong MSU fan I won't be relieved until it is officially announced) considering the baseball teams that we had lineup the previous few seasons.

4.31. We had the 2nd to WORST ERA in 2010, next to GA (for teams in the SEC Trnm.)with 8.51 They dropped it this yr to 5.11.
Of the 8 teams in this years SEC Trnm, we rank #6.
Guess who"s #1 2 and 3 and 4?
You got it, the 4 most highly ranked SEC teams in college baseball.
Our HR's have dropped as well though going from 1.21 per game to just under .50.

Firstly, I've tried to tolerate your dubmass as long as possible since you came back from you self-imposed ban, but I can't anymore. You're consistently, year after year, the worst poster on here. Your sports knowledge is about as full of knowledge and info as one ofmy dumps after Picadilly feasts. If you can't even name our starting lineup, then any opinion of your is quickly voided. I'd rather ask the 17ing Perry Cafeteria Omelette Nazi sports questions than you, dubmass *****. At least she interacts with the players and may have some useful info, unlike your moronic self.

Secondly, when did I eVER say nobody could question Cohen? Oh that's right, I didn't. I just called people out for making idiotic posts such as us having no heart (bogus), us never scoring with RISP (bogus, check the stats or watch our games), and dubmass sliding decisions at 1b (when thefirst baseman is pulled of the bag). You know, your dubmass gave me and others hell for yearsabout uscalling out crooms. Look who turned out right. Now you've been calling us out on Cohen. Well I'd say things are on the upswing with the baseball team (overall). I know you thought you finally had me, but you didn't. Just as usual, you make a worthless post with no validity. Please do SPS a favor and end your life. You are 17ing terrible. Always have been, always will be. I think now we be a good time to go on a self-imposed permanent ban from SPS. I'm all for the whole "express your opinion" and ****, but yours make everyone want to vomit.

So in closing, go sit and mother 17ing spin god damn *** clown.

Sincerely,

Kurt Rambis

and we improved our ranking in the conference- we were in to top six of all pitching staffs until the LSU blowout. The bats have helped team's era's, but I would be willing to bet that the difference is not 2-3 runs different across the board.

That's a huge improvement.

Edit to add these stats:

2010- as a staff we had 387 K's and 253 walks

2011- we have 448 K's and 203 walks.

Again, that's significant improvement, and neither of those stats have anything to do with bats.
