If we don’t make the playoff it’s likely because they chose Alabama instead of us, sending us to the Citrus Bowl. Most projections had Illinois headed there as well. It’s possible they take Ole Miss instead and we go to ReliaQuest against Iowa.
A lot still to be determined, but can’t see a scenario where we fall lower than Tampa. I’d say the odds are high that we are headed to the Citrus Bowl as the first team out of the tournament. But maybe I am just preparing myself for the disappointment.

Haven't looked it up. Are there even NY6 bowls, or whatever they called them? Or is it just playoffs and then regilar bowl tie ins?
Only three bowl games will be played on New Years Day.

Sugar Bowl
These bowls are the quarterfinals for the playoffs (one game on 31 December).
Yeah, I figured we eliminated the NY6 with the expanded playoffs, but I wasn't sure.
Would be cool to play Colorado! Beamer V. Prime memes and taking friendly jabs at each other prior to game day would be hilarious.
If we don’t get a spot we should buy the team tickets on the 50 yard line (lower level) of the first playoff game and have them wear their jerseys. Would be funny.
