Do you think State could have hired Maneiri? Would you have wanted him?

My guess is Polk wanted to retire after last season and Doc asked him to stick it out one more year so the new AD could handle everything.

But to answer your question, I think the search would be about the same. Well except that LT would have conducted it and probably would have hired Raffo.

Polk was defenitely staying through this season to see how the NCAA recall vote went in January

at the same stage of the season last year as he did this year and pull the crap he's pulled then I'm sure Maneiri would have gotten a look although LT was still in play at that time so who knows. If Polk would have retired after we got beat in Omaha and quietly ridden off into the sunset, then there is no question that Raffo would have been named the coach before the team left the locker room.</p>

One year and done in Baton Rouge would not have happened. Yes I would have wanted him. He won forty or more games 11 out of 12 seasons in South Bend. That makes him a good coach. That means I would be happy to have him as our coach.

Let me make sure I understand: If we had a losing season last year, could we have had Manieri? In other words, no SR or CWS.

I'm going to say no as well. We should ask, and heck, I think we should ask now, but he's probably not coming.

And if LT were the AD, Raffo would have coached us this year.

If Polk had retired at the end of last year, after the CWS run, and if the incumbent coach was anyone other than Raffo, it would solidify the idea in some people's mind that Polk was a coaching god, and that going against him cursed our program.

in the fact that if Polk had stepped down last year Raffo would have been annointed immediately. Only this horrible baseball season accompanied with Byrne being brought in to replace LT has our baseball future been at least given the chance for upgrade. I'm thinking even if Byrne had gotten the job a year earlier, that given the CWS trip from last year, had Polk resigned and his handpickd successor not been given the job the Polk worshippers would have rioted and blood would have flowed in the streets of Starkville. It would have probably been that bad figuratively speaking.
