If we're not in the top 20 when the poll is released today,

there will be thousands of pissed off Carolina fans . . . and I'll be one of them.
Many analysts and commentators have jumped on the Gamecock bandwagon so it's highly unlikely.
I saw a number of projections with us at number 22.

The Clemson and UGA losses are fairly ugly marks on our record, but that record only includes 3 losses.

Duke has 5 losses, with 2 of those losses coming against Arkansans, who is a train wreck, and GaTech, who is sub-.500. Both of those losses are way worse than any of ours. They also only have one win over a team that was ranked in the top 10.

Kansas has 4 losses, with 2 of those coming against UCF and WVU, both again worse any of our losses.

Arizona as well. The list goes on. Regardless of our record, we just aren't considered to be that good.

I also think perception hurts somewhat in the manner in which we win games. Pollsters don't appreciate defense. If we were winning games 103-96, it'd be more grabby. Great defense doesn't make for great highlights for most people.

The fact we're not ranked adds an additional level of interest (for me) as the season progresses...a little intrigue!

Isn't it all about the Selection Committee anyway?

I hope we are not ranked and Auburn beats Bama this week in basketball. It would mean the we would be tied for 1st place in the SEC ahead of UT and UK and tied with Bama and Auburn, both ranked.

That would give us MUCH publicity. I'll take the publicity over a stupid ranking of opinions.

We cannot keep winning while remaining unranked. We played the disrespect card against UT, but can't do that the remainder of the season.

We are number 15 in Power Rankings. That's a big jump from unranked.

Team of the Week: South Carolina Gamecocks
Two weeks in a row?! South Carolina won Team of the Week honors last week, but the Gamecocks then went on the road and beat Tennessee and Georgia. No other team can match those wins, especially away from home. There were a litany of top-10 upsets, but none of Georgia Tech, Florida or Nebraska could back it up over the weekend and the Gamecocks winning both games on the road gives them the edge over Kansas.

South Carolina's 63-59 win at Tennessee on Tuesday was the program's first road win over a top-five opponent since March 2, 1997, and was its second top-10 win in a week after knocking off Kentucky two weeks ago. The Volunteers' loss was the first home defeat for a top-five team in almost three months. The Gamecocks then followed that up by erasing a double-digit deficit against Georgia and coming back to beat the Bulldogs in Athens. Showing how balanced South Carolina is, six different players scored in double-figures this past week -- and only Ta'Lon Cooper did it in both games. South Carolina is now 19-3 overall and 7-2 in the SEC.

What would be the perception if we were 22 - 0 with a bunch of ''ugly'' wins?

I felt like we were playing top 15 caliber basketball, but didn't expect to be quite that high. Coaches poll has us 20.

We are now marked and must avoid a letdown against a good Ole Miss team on Tuesday.

Make the tournament and regular season rankings are irrelevant. I get it will play a role in seedlings, but at the end of the day, the road to the championship would most likely run through the higher seed anyway.

Personally, if it gives the team a chip on their shoulders, I’d prefer to stay unranked.
