What is the 'woooo' thing? I guess I had the volume turned down or something. As in Ric Flair 'wooo'?

THE dumbest "cheer" i've ever heard and it has nothing to do with ole miss. i mean seriously? throw it in the dirt? what's next, "swing the bat and miss," or "boot the ball for and error," or "drop the pop-fly please outfielder?" give me a break.

Yes, it sounds a lot like Ric Flair now that I think about it, but it's done over and over instead of just one Woo.

I will say the "throw it in the dirt" crap is annoying. That's its purpose though, and it gets our fans involved in the game. However, at least it's something started by the fans. The "woo" thing is something the UK players do from the dugout. If it was a fan led cheer, it'd be annoying but understandable. Cowbells are annoying, but it's something the fans do to get in the game. If your players were down on the field ringing cowbells, that would be different.

The bells may be annoying to you, but they are not some gay thing thought up by people who's total exposure to baseball until recently has been Little League and the cheers of that fine organization.

If State was playing Ole Miss in the SEC tournament and our players started doing throw it in the dirt, how would you react? If it was the UK fans that were doing it, so what, but its the god damn team.

What would you do if you saw a pro team doing it? I don't love throw it in the dirt, but at least its our fans that do it, not the players.

You can hate the University of Mississippi's newfound interest in baseball all you want, but please refrain from disparaging the greatness of little league cheers.

I think the cheer is annoying as hell, but when little kids all over the state are doing it at their games and referring to it as the "Ole Miss dirt cheer", who am I to argue with the exposure.

I don't minds fans doing cheers, I do mind players doing cheers.

I didn't realize it was an official cheer. I thought it was just one guy starting it up.

We'd better hire Showalter and hope to get some ESPN time to counteract this.

I just find this all really funny.

Do you really think that the players yelling "WOOO" in the dugout had an effect on the game? Do you really think it had an effect on your players?

Judging by the results of the game, I'm going to say no.

I don't think it had an effect on the outcome, but it's annoying to listen to when you watch a game, and it makes them sound like a bunch of softball players.

or throw it in the dirt the entire game, every game, you'd be just as pissed.

Your acting like this isn't a big deal, and it really isn't, but if ya'll had played that game, you'd be just as annoyed by it.

Have you heard it?

I'll watch them play and make sure that I listen closely for the "WOOOO" noise. When I actually do pinpoint the noise, which will be a challenge given that we are talking JP/LF/whatever they are broadcasting, I will form an opinion and probably will laugh. I watched the game last night and didn't notice.

I do think "Throw it in the dirt" is a stupid cheer, not because it's annoying, but because throwing the ball in the dirt isn't always a bad thing- especially if you're trying to get the batter to chase a pitch. I hate Ball 4 as well, but at least it's always a good thing when you walk.

I watched the Kentucky Alabama game Wednesday night, and the WOOOO thing is annoying as hell. The throw it in the dirt crap is equally annoying.

You might be right. The only thing I can think of that would be more gay is if all the players bleached their hair together.

Careful now--softball is the sport of kings. Oddly enough, there is a team in my league that does a 'Woop' cheer. It starts with their pitcher and goes around the entire field--C, 3B, SS, 2B, 1B...then the outfield, ending in right. It's not too bad--they don't do it very often. Of course, they also suck and that may be the reason nobody minds....

Cowbells are annoying to 11 out of 12 SEC schools (or 12 out of 12 if you ask LT). And that's the same for everyone else's traditions (Hotty Toddy, Rocky Top, Pig Sooie, etc.).

Nor does the Gator chop. Certainly not the Chinese Bandit fanfare or hold that Tiger. In fact the only other thing an SEC school does that annoys me is SC's rooster call over the PA. But that rooster is sweet music upside Hotty Totty and a fat man in a suit and tennis shoes screaming FIRST DOWN..... OLLLLLLLE MISSSSS!!!!! That **** makes me homicidal.

The Underground Railroad was annoying to Plantation owners.
The Partisans were annoying to the Nazis.
Martin Luther King was annoying to racists.
What's your point?
