I get why we're doing this, and I know everyone else does too. But man, I miss the days when a football game was just a football game and not a multimedia entertainment event.

Yeah what the hell, I went to see a light show and a heavy metal concert and a damn football game broke out!

In Jxn, I walk the dogs overnight at 7:30, the sun is going down by then. The lights will be on for most of the first game and for most of the second half of the second game.

If you haven't been paying attention, Fox has turned noon into their big game, which is smart, it allows for another big game to kick three hours later and even another big game at night. Just look at the SEC schedule, more marquee teams are on at noon, including Bama/Wis. Texas/TOSU is in at noon, but a Fox game.
FOX (not ABC/ESPN, our broadcasting partner) has been trying to make the 11 am game a big deal for years now because the SEC on CBS game was on at 2:30 pm and usually the highest or second highest rated game of the day. The primetime game on ABC was generally the other highest or second highest rated game of the day.

11 am was the only blue water left for Fox to go since they were so late to the college football party. Also, you can ask any Big Ten or Big 12 fan what they think about having their team play their most important games at 11 o damn clock in the morning and the response will not be a positive one.

Alabama-Wisconsin is not really a marquee matchup anymore. 7 years ago maybe, but Wisconsin isn’t anywhere near what it used to be. Alabama, in a down year, beat them by 32 last year and will probably beat them by more this year. That game may not even be on ABC, depending on how Clemson and Georgia Tech look by then. The 2:30 pm game that day is Georgia vs Tennessee and the primetime game that night is LSU vs Florida (not to mention Texas A&M vs Notre Dame on NBC). Alabama vs Wisconsin is one of the least consequential games that day.

It makes a lot of sense to have a big game at 11, at 3, then another at 7. Sandwich in the rest wherever you can fit them.

The most watched reg season game last year was TOSU/Michigan that kicked at noon.

Noon/11AM has always been a big time slot for college football. SEC just never got big games in that time slot because ESPN used it for their big Big 10 games.

This isn't a pre-**** this is a long-term little thing that we all notice.

In 2014 we didn't have this problem with any of the videos.

In 2024, the SNL sketch for More Cowbell is now out of sync.

In 2025, This Content Strategy Job has been sitting vacant for two months now.

It's little things that we don't do well, both on the field and off the field. I'd much rather fix the on the field things, but man it's much easier to fix the off the field ones. I'm just gonna apply to that job and fix it myself.

So, sunset in Starkville is around what 7:30-8 pm right now?

First home game is at 6:30 pm and the second is at 5:00 pm. With the way the college game has been shortened, the second half of the first game might be in the dark. 4th quarter of the second game might be in the dark… maybe, plus it’s an FCS team, so there might be 20,000 people left by sunset.

So that’s 1 out of 12… maybe at most 3 if they somehow put both the Texas and Tennessee games under the lights.

And nobody really believes 11 am is a primetime slot.
Exactly what time do you want us to kick off?

I love when people can’t admit they are wrong. A 6;30 game is definitely considered a night game.

A 5:00 game is considered a night game by most people.

I already said the 6:30 pm game was our 1 night game, but I don’t expect the lights to be useful until the second half. I don’t think that’s really that controversial of a take. If this game wasn’t in Week 2, I would agree that they’d play the whole game under the lights. Typical SEC, we get a night game during the one part of the season where night doesn’t necessarily equal dark.

Unless you’re in your 70’s and eat dinner at Denny’s at 4:30 pm or it’s the months of November through February, 5:00 pm is not a night game. It’s the late afternoon game.

Also, between the fact that the stadium will be less than half full by sundown against Alcorn State and the fact that sundown is going to be about 2 and a half hours after that 5:00 pm kickoff, very few people are going to even see the lights that game. Again, I don’t see that as that controversial of a take.

You made an original comment like we didn't get any night games. Our first 2 home games are what most people would consider "night games".
