Forget duck and cover, that's so 1960s. Nuclear bomb detonation safety and survival techniques have improved leaps and bounds since then, make sure you know how to take advantage of them.
Wait until you are notified that it is safe to go outside.
In 40 years.
If there is a nuke attack, I am sure NYC will be one of the first targets. So this infomercial is for those in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Cape May, NJ and Albany, NY?
I know which makes it seem silly to me.I'm pretty sure NYC commissioned this. #NYCCares

I don't want to be cynical except that can be the only response in this case. WTF. Who conceived this and how much was paid for it? Put your radioactive clothes in a bag and then WHAT? If you got it on you, there's radioactive dust everywhere! @BobPSU92 nailed it. This can only be a feel okay piece for lemmings.
Place your head in your butt and kiss your *** goodbye!Wait until you are notified that it is safe to go outside.

I think that it is supposed to be instructional rather than predictiveThis is just unbelievable. Do the people behind making this video believe everyone will remain calm as if a large firecracker went off! Sorry to speculate but history has shown Americans overreacting to such events and I would hate to witness the "fallout" of such an event.

Nahhhh... those eastern cities are doing just fine on their own screwing things up. Smart money is on the heartland. Eliminate our real source of food and ability to resist a foreign invasion (aka GUNS in the hands of people who actually know how to use them) and the rest is ez pz. NYC draws headlines (not thta many presses will be rolling at that point) but America is between the shores... not on em. I suspect Putin knows that. I suspect they ALL do. OTOH, he might drop a tsunami on the east coast for kicks. Pretty ez to do. [I've got a daughter in NJ who could be looking at beachfront property!]If there is a nuke attack, I am sure NYC will be one of the first targets. Some of you 70+ year old readers might remember. In the 50s -60s there were 19 Nike missile sites in PA Run by the Army. The missiles were ālocked and loadedā in case the Russians sent bombers to take out steel production. There were 12 in Pittsburgh and seven in Philly but curiously none in Bethlehem. More sites around the country. My dad drove me by a site on a hill in the Penn Hills/Plum area east of Pittsburgh. People now live or shop on sites that were decommissioned, dismantled and abandoned as late as the 70ās. Probably donāt even know what was once there.
I can't speak to your numbers except that in the early 70s, there were 4 Nike sites in the Pittsburgh region, located around the city.View attachment 211456

Great picture. I remember a Nike site at Oakdale, near Pittsburgh. Even during the Vietnam war soldiers were stationed there and at other sites around the U.S. I met a guy who was drafted and spent two years at a Nike Site, he considered himself very lucky. Much better than going to Vietnam. For those who do not remember the missles in the picture from left to right, Nike Ajax, Nike Hercules and Nike Zeus. The first two were designed to take out bombers, the last one was an anti-missile missile. As I remember the Nike Zeus was never fully deployed as it was not effective or not effective enough. The sites were taken down in the early 70's. The Oakdale site was still in operation as a radar site after the missles were removed. As I remember the Nike Hercules sites had nuclear weapons. These weapons were designed to take on a fleet of bombers with a high altitude nuclear explosion.View attachment 211456

This confirms what I was told as a kid driving by the missle site in Worcester, PA. PH-91C and PH 91-L are the ones my dad used to point out every time we drove by. It was very very rural back then. Now those sites are covered with McMansions. Used to do an easter egg hunt right across the street in my youth in the early 70s.Wow. That really brings back some memories. I remember often passing these as we travelled about the Pgh area. A detailed Wikipedia listing shows 12 listed as Pittsburgh area sites each with a control site and a launch site and 7 listed as Philadelphia area (though NJ had a number as well). General idea of location in these pictures. The webpage gives coordinates and some info about what remains/happened to each site.
