I'm almost sold on Dylan Favre.

The Mr. Football article in the C-L made him sound like a good football player.

Coach Balis will throw some muscle on him. He'll probably grow a half inch to an inch. This guy can play football. If Mullen is serious about not wanting to miss the Favres, Paytons, Rices, and McNairs of our state then this is the type of guy he needs to pickup.

Can anyone confirm his 40 time? It says on Scout it's a 4.81. Faster than me, but needs to be a little faster. I'd hate to think Tyson Lee could out run him.

I'd be okay with Favre assuming he's intended for depth. He did put up freakish stats, I'll give him that. But, I see Favre being more of a prospect in a throw-first style spread offense vs. our our system. Both are short, but Brunetti has a better frame and is a better fit for our offense. Mason put up freakish stats as well, but he's taller. Favre would have the offers Mason does if he were 6'3''. There's a reason big time programs shy away from short QBs.

If we do end up going the Favre route, I'd love to see him in on 4th downs as a punt or pass threat. That could be an interesting wrinkle to the offense.

I am not saying Favre is anywhere near Flutie or Masoli on talent level, but it is possible for short quarterbacks to be successful, especially in college football.

Out of the hundreds of D-1 Qb's that have been successful, you come up with 2 who have excelled and are short. Yeah, there are more.....but.....they are all anomalies.

I dont give a **** how many yards and TDs he has thrown. He does not deserve a scholarship to an SEC school....end of this SHORT story.

we should be able to find a scholarship for Favre. Any of these guys could end up being great, or could be busts. I think Favre has a better chance than a lot of guys we have signed up.

But to say he can't just because Tyson Lee didn't is beyond dumb. Hell, most of the people who ***** about Favre's 5'11" height are still convinced that Wes Carroll, all of 2"" taller, was a good QB. Whatever Dylan Favre turns out to be, he'll be a hell of a lot better QB than Carroll could ever dream of.

Eric Richards anyone?
Point is there are a lot of "sure things" that end up as garbage. Why not roll the dice with this guy who obviously has talent. I mean he's Mr. Football.

I say offer him a scholarship. I have watched him play and he can throw the ball. Yeah he is short but Tyson lee had bigger problems than his height. He could not throw farther than 40 yards. Dylan favre can sling the ball. Hell he may be smarter than lee and I know he is taller and throws way better. Do you guys realize he scored 56 points in a game by himself. He is a winner give him a shot.

It's not like Templeton Hardy and Eric Richards were Parade AA's.

Chisolm is going to be a slot WR/RB/Ath for us. He is about the same height as Florida's ATH. At that position, all Mullen cares about are two things- speed and athleticism. Chisolm is a proto-type guy for that position.

Hill is 6 foot tall, and is tall enough to play either LB or S, depending on how much muscle he puts on and how well he is in coverage.

Just because cam visited auburn i dont think we are out of the race by any stretch.. dylan is a good quarter back.. i played against him his first start ever when he was a sophmore.. he put a hurting on us.. i just i would just worry about his ability to see down field for the long balls.. i would think he would be a good choice for a walk on to add more versatility to the offense but the scholarship needs to go to newton IF we can get him.. if not, we'll have to worry about that situation then..

I think we're getting to the point where it seems to me that we're trying to sign a QB for the sake of signing a QB.

Now, don't get me wrong, I know that getting a QB is a need of ours.

But looking ahead to next year, I think there's a VERY good chance that we get Mikhail Miller from Itawamba, and he is a VERY good QB. If he were a senior this year, this thread wouldn't even be here. He is also a Mullen style QB that can run and throw.

I think Brunetti would be good, but just because his parents want him to stay close to home it doesn't mean that he's going to change his mind. It's far more likely that he is going to West Virginia for God knows why.

Mason is probably going to Georgia.

Then you have Newton, and if we don't get him, go ahead and offer and likely sign the guy from California.

We're going to get a JUCO QB one way or the other, it looks like.

So, our worst case scenario is Russell, Relf, Steagall, Fye or whatever his name is in whatever order. In an emergency situation, we could also use Bumphis at QB as far as next year.

So, then we wait a year and get Miller, and then we have essentially the same guys plus Miller as a RS. That's not bad.

What I'm getting at is if we can't sign a HS QB this year, wouldn't it be more prudent to spend that scholarship on another player, like an o-lineman or another athlete type? Even if we get Favre, I doubt that he would ever beat out Russell, so he would be sitting on our bench for four years until his fifth year anyway. And I think that's the main reason why we haven't gotten and probably won't get a Brunetti or a Mason. These players want to play- and I don't blame them for that. I know that Mullen has said that he wants a HS QB every year, but even if he doesn't get one this year, I'm not going to be upset because I know that he tried. That's was my problem with Croom- he didn't even try half the time.

His biggest (pun intended) problem was making bad decisionsm and having a noodle arm, not being short.

My projection of Favre's success does not lay solely on Tyson Lee. I would certainly add Henig and Carroll to the list. I am not convinced Favre will be more better than Carroll.

Hell, I am trying to recall from memory other SEC schools that have given opportunities to small QBs...I cant think of one. Why do we have to be relegated to the small guys? We really need one of those amusement park measuring devices to sort out potential QB's.

You don't pass up a likely contributor to take a flyer on a longshot. But if you're choosing between likely bench players, why not go off need and/or choose the player at the position that's hardest to project? I'd rather have a good to decent lineman prospect, but if that's not available, I'd be fine with Favre. At the very least, he'll be able to be a Matt Wyatt punter. Maybe he'll turn out to be a reesling (or whatever the UK qb's name was), chase daniels, etc. Unlikely, but it was unlikely that chase daniels would turn out to be as good as chase daniels. If Favre doesn't pan out, he can transfer if he wants to. Also, I'd much rather him be a bench player at MSU than a starter at USM.

41.4-yard punting average! That's worth just giving him a shot alone. And he gives you the pass wrinkle. As for the short guy syndrome-how many Mr. Football titles did Henig, Lee, and Carroll receive? We would have 2 back to back Mr. Football signees. I say give him a chance. From what I've heard, he's a big MSU fan.

Chisolm is quick and elusive, but not fast, and his durability is questionable. Hill has the physical attributes, but not killer stats. Favre has huge stats, but is a couple of inches short. There is something compelling about each one, and something lacking about each one. Mullen is going to make the decision about which ones he can work with and it looks like he's going with quickness, and size.

One of the jewels of his recruiting class. Eric Richards was supposed to be a good kicker. But, well, let's just leave that one alone. No need to beat a dead ******, oops i mean horse.

The point is if Favre is not worthy of an offer, why did these guys get offers? How much more can a high school athelte in this state possibly do to get a scholarship? He could be born 6'5" 240 i guess and run a 4.45.

I just think it's worth a shot. Just to see what he's got. Maybe its the riverboat gambler in me.
