Rafael Palmeiro, Will Clark or any other former State Baseball player as our head coach without them ever being a coach before?

not as head coach but I wouldn't mind Rafael or Will as a hitting coach. Probably prefer Palmeiro over Clark.

Not a chance I'd take either as a head coach.
That said, Will is a hitting instructor now for the Giants. I heard him interviewed and he said when the Giants have a young kid struggling with a hitting issue somewhere he's the guy they send to wherever to work with him to help get it straightened out. He says it helps him stay involved with baseball, travel some and help the organization.
Hmmm, I wonder if we have any left handed power hitters he could assist with hitting issues?
He may no longer be doing it because it was a year or two ago when I heard the interview but sounded like a perfect gig for a former player with a family to have

I'm not advocating for this type of hire. It seemed to me that some on this board would be in favor of this but as it turns out, I was wrong and gladly so.

It's usually the former players that were grinders that make solid to great coaches. Hmm, maybe we are a few years away from getting a hero grinder as coach.
