and If Stansbury can get the young guys to mesh and get solid contriubutions from Brian Johnson (who Rick says is healthier than he has ever been). We need health to be our side but the talent is there to be there in the end again.

If those 2 things take occur it could very well be a special year in Vegas.

But the immediate future won't be so bright.

Football - 7-5 (Indy Bowl).
Basketball - 18-20 wins, then win 2-4 NIT games.
Baseball - 32-35 wins, probably 9th in the SEC, NCAA bubble-out.

Now that we have the best Athletic Director we've had since Carl Maddox in place, not only will MSU sports improve but the overall gameday experience. That said, Mstate usually has one sport that goes tits-up. This past year, it was baseball, normally our strong sport. In years past, it's usually football. Maybe even the girl sports will have crowds going from the dozens to the hundreds

No argument you will be solid in the other two but how do you logically expect to be better at baseball? Lose Piggot and Weatherford and likely Turner and no Dixon. How are you going to be better? No flame. Just for discussion. I know Nappi is good and likely Freeman but who else?

Cohen will bring out the best in our guys. We're not devoid of talent. I'd bet my house our ERA cuts in half next year with a decent pitching coach.

were virtually non factors this year. And Dixon of course didn't play for us. Pigott is really the only loss when comparing this year to next year. our staff is going to be pretty brutal regardless, but it can't get much worse.

Offensively, we'll be pretty good. Hogue is coming back, Powers, Adkins, Collins, Duffy and Freeman provides a nice nucleus in the order. The key is getting the Sneeds, R. Powers, and all other potential infielders to step up.

We'll have a shot at a regional, but its certainly no guarantee. LSU, Bama and Auburn will all be pretty good next year. I'm more puzzled by the love basketball is getting. We are going to be awful.

ERA in half? You don't have any talent on the pitching staff that I know of. I know Moore's got potential but come on. 8 made a good point about Houge though. I forgot about him. He is a really good lead off man. You should have a nice top of the order in Houge, whoever, Nappi, Freeman, Power. I just don't see "Cohen bringing out the best in the team" as the answer to your problems. Don't get me wrong. I think over time he's going to make a big impact but I just don't see it next year.

at least not next year. But I do think we can realistically cut it by 1.50. Of course, that would still leave us near the bottom of the SEC pitching stats.

But Polk was notorious for leaving pitchers in way too long, allowing them to give up a lot of runs. If those guys are pulled before giving up eight runs in eight at bats, the ERA should improve a good bit (extremely vague, I know).

had an ERA this year that was as good as 3.41, which is what half of our ERA would be.

That is like saying we'll bat .330.

I don't think it'd be stepping out on a limb to say your ERA will be better. It couldn't get much worse. Your ERA was 6.82. The 11th best ERA in the SEC was UT at 5.40 You could cut 1.50 off your ERA and still likely be outside the top 10 in the SEC in ERA. I don't see you dominating the league in pitching next year, but I'd expect you to be at least somewhat better in that area.

He won or saved 10 of our 23 wins last year and finished 5th in the SEC in saves despite playing on such a ****** team. I'd say that's a pretty significant loss. As bad as last year was, without Weatherford it would have been much worse.

but Moore has potential. Swindle and Busby are pitching very well in summer ball right now as well. I don't think you'll see as many nagging injuries as last year.

Columbus dog.... The big names from last year may not be there this season; but the "new" big names are there and have to prove themselve.

However, this attitude on a message board about losing is the reason to hate the university, coaches, players IS WRONG. We have a new athletic director who is bring about positive changes. The attitude in athletics at this moment is much, much better than in past years. However, there is nothing wrong with be critical; but let's make it constructive criticism.

We are going to have up and down seasons.

I believe this basketball team this coming season will have to develop its own personality and also play as a team. I am excited about the positive news coming from our athletic department..... think about it...

1 - high profile recruits are wanting to commit early and also want to help recruit other top players.
2 - baseball is getting back to where we belong... enough said
3 - we lose some good basketball players; but we have future players coming on boare (ie... Osby, Bost, Agustus, etc)

I don't believe the sixpack message board is to be totally negative. I know many of you speak your mind; but many of you are constructive.

79dawg4life, just say no to crack.

My post contains 2 sentences. The first sentence is a quote from 8dog, thus the box around the sentence. And then I made a tongue in cheek comment about the key to our basketball season being toughness because that's what Stans says before every season, before every game, and after every loss.

I thought it was well over 7.00, but I guess we got hot at the end of the year. (sad)

I think getting it into the 4's would be a good goal, and may be possible. I think Moore and Bowen could really improve a lot next year, and Crosswhite likely won't have an ERA of 10 and change, and if he does, we won't keep trotting him out there, no matter what.

One very critical mistake that Polk made last year was not putting Lalor into the weekend rotation. He might have been able to win us a few games. Oh well.
