Yes....both had great careers. Andrew Jones won 10 Gold Gloves, 434 Homer's 1,300 RBIs. The youngest player, at 19 years old, to hit a home run in the World Series and the only player to hit home runs the first 2 times at bat ever in a World Series.
Good point. And it's not like he was surrounded with great players as the Braves were developing their franchise.I always wonder why Dale Murphy isn't in; he didn't have as many HR's (398) or RBI's (1,266), but he did win back to back NL MVPs.
Don’t forget Pa.’s own Gene Tenace, who was the first player to homer in his first two WS AB’s in 1972 on his way to WSMVP for the A’s.Yes....both had great careers. Garvey 100%.Steve Garvey for sure. He was a terrific baseball player for the LA Dodgers.
Davis was crushed by injuries. I used to argue with my Mets friends about Davis vs. Strawberry all the time. Davis played all out everyday, unlike Strawberry. Sadly, his body couldn’t hold up to that approach. Two players who succumb to drug use that looked like future HOFers were Gooden and Strawberry.
Two others who came on to the scene like Haley's Comet then fizzled away were Cesar Cedeno and Eric Davis.
Can explain Tim Raines In the HoF?Garvey no, Jones yes. But using Harold Baines as the hall of fame floor, Garvey belongs in. Many, many players belong in if you’re starting with Baines.
As far as what? I can’t explain much in regards to hall of fame decisions. Can explain Tim Raines In the HoF?
Raines getting in as well. His stats besides being an everyday player are similar to Baines and Garvey Is better in a few areas…Raines does have a much better WAR vs Baines and Garvey though. As far as what? I can’t explain much in regards to hall of fame decisions.
One point you make in there is relevant in regards to Baines. Raines played the field while Baines was a DH for 58% of his games. The second point to me is that Raines was elite at something. Stealing bases. A guy like Raines (or Henderson or Vince Coleman) put pressure on pitchers to not put them on base and even more once they are.Raines getting in as well. That's certainly a take.Jones, no way. In my opinion, he and the other steroid users do not belong in the Hall of Fame.
No evidence Jones took steroids clown.Did really see Garvey play much, as I was too young.

Were Don Sutton and Tommy Lasorda the only future HOFers on those Dodger teams?Loved that late 70's Dodger team. Lopes, Russell Smith, Cey, Garvey, Baker, Monday, Yeager, Pitcher. That happened just about every day. They had Bill North, Lee Lacy, Johnny Oates, Joe Ferguson on the bench and that was about it.
Should Garvey be in the HOF? I would say very border line.
I believe so. They were definitely a sum of the parts type of team. A lot of very good players. Couldn't ever beat the Yankees. By the time they got over the top in the strike year I think the infield was still in place minus Yeager, and maybe Dusty Baker the only outfielder left. Were Don Sutton and Tommy Lasorda the only future HOFers on those Dodger teams?
