Iowa CB opts out of the remainder of 2024 Season

I'd pretty much opt out of anything Iowa sans Field of Dreams any opportunity I'd get. Maybe he's met the wrestling coach. That could explain it.
And here we go.
Really can’t wait for contracts. But, cheers to the first opt out of the year!
A few random thoughts:
-The Ivy League was ahead of it’s time when it decided to de-emphasize football decades ago.
-So the guy quit the team but people still insist on using the term “opt out” because people are apparently so emotionally weak that they are afraid to use the word quit? ? Is this similar to the use of the term “unalived”?
-“College” football continues to implode which is not necessarily a bad thing.
-I’m still hoping that some schools will announce one day that they are “opting out” of D1 football. I believe there were rumors Cal and Stanford might have when the PAC 12 dissolved.
-Something tells me Jermari Harris probably had no business being in “college” to begin with and he is likely far from the only one.
-Does it say anything about the NFL - and maybe the overall sport of football - when you can apparently improve your stock as a “football player” by not actually playing football?

As a seasoned fan of college football, I too, am declaring to opt out of watching Iowa football for the rest of the 2024 season. Please respect my decision, but I am doing what is best for the fandom of college football and for the few brain cells I have left, I do not want to waste them watching the Corn cob fudge punchers play football. Now where's my NIL monies????
I think it’s clear that the NFL doesn’t truly value character.
Interestingly, the Ivy League is considering allowing their teams to be eligible for the 1AA playoffs in the near future. Still tbd, but that it's even a topic of discussion is quite the change.
Nothing was said about adding to their 10 regular season game limit.
A lot of players simply want a shot at the NFL and until the league starts up a legitimate developmental league (will never happen), playing college ball is the only realistic path there is. The last two regular season games are @ Maryland and home against Nebraska. Maybe a couple of three hour flights for a meaningless game didn't appeal to him. And maybe playing a Black Friday night game in Iowa City with a forecast daytime high in the upper 20s wasn't his cup of tea. Harris was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and would have skipped the bowl game anyway. I have no idea what sort of pro prospect he is but at least he'll get his shot with the NFL.
And here we go.
This whole thing is so backwards and out of control. The unproven guys get the most money, the talented guys on bad teams quit when their teams tank, and coaches are continually incentivized to not win (guaranteed contracts). Flush this whole thing.
As he prepares for his future career, is he permitted to use university facilities? Are his NIL payments prorated for his lack of participation?
FWIW: We are already seeing players opting out and pulling the plug on their seasons - players on teams still very much in the playoff hunt.
I will be a bit surprised if we see a large number of guys doing that this year (but I have been surprised before), but - for sure - there will be plenty of kids opting out of playoff opportunities moving forward.
In time - probably relatively short time - I expect that the "playoffs" will lead to even more kids opting out. It only makes sense.
If you've already come to terms with mentally "packing your bags" for the NFL - why play as many as 4 games, beating up your body during December and January, with the NFL combine and draft right around the corner.

Maybe, maybe not. His agent's take on his current draft situation and projected earnings are probably what would really matter. Pride, loyalty and all that old fashioned shiit doesn't weigh much.
I encourage everyone to attend a Yale Harvard game. You will see how committed athletes can be and the definition of a competitor. You can’t buy that level of passion.
I have not attended Army Navy yet but I suspect it’s a similar environment on the field.

I’m a HS guy. Middletown is favored tonite in the group 3 semis. Pre game at friends house, he drove last week, buzzed at the game, feels like I’m right back there
Let’s not blame the kids. I blame the influence of big money in sports. There is very little amateurish in major college football.

Mercenaries, that's what a lot of today's players are. Nothing but paid mercenaries.
