I'll take the "under" on those alignments. Some consolidation would not surprise me.

The upcoming meeting in Nashville between the SEC and Big 10 could go down as an incipient event in this direction - could.

LOL!!! I thought, of all people, KW might appreciate this: MAGNILOQUENCE: A noun that means using too many words or excessive verbal ornamentation to say something simple. Or, a writing style that uses overly flowery language that draws attention to itself instead of the subject matter.

In plain ole 'Merican', we call it getting rid of the current NCAA Ruling Organization for football.

But, let's be honest. "The French" have ALWAYS said it BEST!!! Coup d'etat!!! .... 'Cut off the head and the rest of the body dies.'

Lord I hope not. I like the SEC just as it is. We'll see if Texas and Oklahoma are a good fit. So far, it seems to be going pretty well. I've perused their message boards and they genuinely seem to love being in the conference.

Texas and Oklahoma would have been good fits and major assets for the SEC at any time in modern college football history. They are monumental acquisitions.

I do appreciate it. I would also assert that the post to which you attached it was as sententious as it needed to be.;)

Well, I think we all knew once money became dominant in the game, college football would change forever. It started with conference expansion. Then NIL and the transfer portal altered the sport dramatically. I’m old and still enjoy college football above all other sports. I hate what’s happening but the horse has left the barn. As always those decades younger than me probably like all these changes. If not, they will have plenty of time to learn to live with it. My guess is college football will eventually go away and become like triple A baseball. Kids will go straight from high school to the pros. It’s been happening in basketball for years.

Yes it's coming, and it's coming in incrementally. (For proof, look at portfolios of the 4 major conferences, compared to just 2 years ago)
There will be more significant announcements for the upcoming 2025-2026 seasons
