Is the average age in the transfer portal getting "younger"?

Barret Sallee and Rick Neuheisel on ESPNU pointing out that there are over 1,000 players in the transfer portal, and many will not find a scholarship opportunity at their current level. They pointed out many will wind up dropping down a level or two to get scholarships. When the music stops everyone doesn't have a chair.

They also suggested (I do not think they had a source or data) that the avg age (# years on team) is getting younger. Their theory was that in the first year or two, the players in the portal had a year or two at most eligibility. Now they think that there are players hitting the portal after only a year or two in their program. They pointed to Quinn Ewers exit which was one year wonder. They also suggested that the avg * rating of players in the transfer portal is higher than the players not in the transfer portal. Has anyone seen anything that suggests players now hit this portal faster?

Let me try and tackle this one gang. When the portal was originally conceived, NIL was just a bag man’s wet dream. Now with so much money floating around, why wait. Everyone loves to play wheel of fortune, especially when you have people telling you every spin is a winner. Not everyone enters the portal for money, but it sure entices the good ones. In conclusion, it’s probably more to do about money than age.

Maybe. My theory is that the portal makes processing so much easier and my guess is that it contributes the largest number. Money is certainly a part of it, so is the search for playing time, and all of the other reasons for which players transferred before the portal existed.
