is there a link with player academic majors?

Interesting. Not sure of the rule, but I do see all of Maryland sports rosters have them.
I remember being at a game (over 20 years ago) and the program contained player bio and major. I see some schools have web page with students that show, name, address, email, cell phone and majors. They probably have an opt out choice.

I saw a link that showed Sean Clifford's major.

I doubt such information is allowed to be shared without the permission of the student-athlete. FERPA.
Now that has to be a great job for picking up women. “What do you do for a living Jim” she ever so coyly asked. “I’m a top level administrator for FERPA, I compile lists of college kids Majors and Minors” he boastfully replied.

why should I care?

Generally, I care about the "student" portion of the student-athlete, so it's interesting to me

And now that my kids are starting/approaching high school as prospective college student-athletes, it's even more intriguing. I like to see if the kids on the squads are actually taking challenging majors and/or would lend a good support system to one another.

Easy enough to find such information for every player - right on the PSU athletics website (or the website of any other collegiate athletic department I have ever looked at)

Does that mean every player signed a "FERPA Waiver" or some such thing? I, honestly, haven't the foggiest idea.

Clearly you don't. However, knowing our athlete's were also serious students gave many of of us a sense of pride in our Dear Old State. Discussion often included the kids major, particularly if it was a STEM major.

I guess that didn't give you a sense of pride.

No. Most of the individual player bios indicate majors. No future rocket surgeons, though Nourzad has an engineering degree from Cornell.
Dating back to Franklin's first year. haven't signed a single football recruit who earned a degree from the College of Engineering, College of Science, and but a couple from the College of Business (even though those three colleges account for a substantial portion of all degrees awarded at PSU)

Many come in expressing their intent to study in those fields - but, for whatever reason, it just doesn't come to pass. Of current players who have gained entrance to a major, I believe Fashanu is the only one in any of those three colleges (a business major in Smeal)

I'm scrolling through the players' majors ... I gave up on looking at Soph or younger. But how do Redshirt Juniors, and Redshirt Seniors have "DUS" listed under major? Isn't that what you list when you have no major? How can you be in school for 4 or 5 years and not have a major? I wonder if it's just not updated (some kids don't even have an option for major listed), or is this a thing at PSU?

In reviewing the roster, it appears DUS is the primary designation for a major for most players, including upperclassmen, which is kind of interesting.

"But, but - RECORD APR NUMBERS!" (usually, erroneously, stated as "record graduation rates") say all the folks who haven't the slightest idea what an "APR number" actually means. C'est la vie

I checked Stanford as an extreme comparison. There are definitely some real majors at play there ... but they're few and far between. Like 5-8 are engineering or science related. A bunch of psych/sociology. But there's one that the majority of kids were in - Science, Technology and Society. Sounds legitimate enough, but upon further inspection, it's this catch-all type thing. It's a "major" where you can get a BA or BS, and it has a bunch of concentrations, and you can basically tailor it to your needs. Essentially, it likely works to let football players skate by with a non-challenging education.

A number of years ago when UVa was at least somewhat good they upset #1 F$U at home on a Thursday night.

During the game they showed a bio of a UVA player who had a highlight play. Each player was a Religious Studies major. The color guy said “No wonder they are winning. They have God on their side”

Let's be chatitable and assume the best. All the upperclassmen with DUS listed as their major have accumulated enough credits to graduate with multiple majors but have not yet made their choices. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

When I was switching majors, the only way for me at the time was to spend a semester in Division of Undergraduate Studies, or as we called it at the time, Dumb Undecided Student.
