Could every school take their share of the TV money along with what other funds they have coming in and cover every athlete in ever sport with an equal paycheck, and cover the overhead of running the AD? I don't think so, but maybe I am missing another load of $$$$. If this money can only be for football, then it seems to me that sport will have separate from the schools and be independent..

Seems like maybe the coaches would have to take a haircut. Who's worth more, the player or the coach?

Yes. Every school could put every athlete $10k, or pick a number. But will they? Or will they only pay football and basketball?

If the time comes that all these non revenue sport athletes need to be paid beyond their scholarship and other benefits they already get, then it's time to get rid of those sports entirely

Or maybe he has been all along. Have you seen his contracts? The guy is criminally underpaid.

It’s been a few months since the last contract was signed. Big TV money coming. Time to renegotiate.

(73) Josh Pate On Conferences Solving CFB's Problems (Late Kick Cut) - YouTube

I listen to Josh for all of my CFB news. He talks about paying players in this segment, and how it can fix the transfer portal issues.
Does he suggest the obvious?

1. Cut players, and the associated costs, when they fail to perform. Honoring four year scholarships should be a thing of the past.

2. When they don’t have to carry the dead weight of poor recruiting choices the schools can reduce the rosters significantly. Why have 85 players when you don’t need them?

3. Of course many of the 135 D1 programs are losing money with their sport programs. When the dream of competing is lost the schools outside the super conferences will gradually drop football. Then Pate and his ilk can say goodbye to the thousands of scholarships that made it possible for so many to graduate with no debt and a degree. Too bad, but that’s modern times for you.

No kidding? You think if football becomes too much a business that maybe, just maybe, a university should rethink having a program?

It is sad that the only people that those of us who have that view can look to support it are the academics at the University. Then again I was surprised when I put up a poll on here and over 20% of the posters stated that they would favor Penn State dropping the program given the direction of things. So there is a little hope.

I think for some schools that reality is just around the corner.

Part of having 85 players is available bodies in case of injury or to rest better players in blowouts. Having the extra bodies also allows better players to get some rest in practice.

One of the arguments against the harsh scholarship limitation levied on PSU in 2012 was the added stress that would be put on a limited roster.

Well, then you get hit with a Federal Title IX lawsuit since I'm guessing only mens sports (football/basketball) make money.

Maybe not. There are ways, but Kraft would have to earn his money which most ADs avoid.
